Job summary

ZACHRY in Texas is seeking an experienced Insulation Technician to apply, repair, and remove insulation on industrial equipment, pipes, and vessels to control temperature and noise.

You will read blueprints, select materials, and install insulation with sheet metal, seals, and protective coverings, while maintaining safety standards and submitting records.

This role requires NCCER Industrial Insulator certification and the ability to work at heights in varying weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints and documentation or plan work activities.

• Prepare surfaces with adhesives or cement and install protective coverings.
• Observe safety rules and wear PPE; perform site cleanup.

Job description

SUMMARY

Apply, remove, and repair insulation on industrial equipment, pipes, ductwork, or other mechanical systems such as heat exchangers, hot and cold pipes, storage tanks and vessels, to help control noise and maintain temperatures.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Reads and interprets blue prints, instructions, and other documentation or plan work activities.
• Determines the amounts and selects required insulation material (in sheet, tubular, or roll form), such as fiberglass, foam rubber, Styrofoam, cork, or urethane, based on materials ability to retain heat, location, surface, shape, and equipment use.
• Moves materials and equipment to work locations and sets up work site.
• Cover, seal, or finish insulated surfaces or access holes with plastic covers, canvas strips, sealants, tape, cement or asphalt mastic.
• Fit insulation around obstructions, and shape insulating materials and protective coverings as required.
• Install sheet metal around insulated pipes with screws in order to protect the insulation from weather conditions or physical damage
• Measure and cut insulation for covering surfaces, using tape measures, handsaws, knives, and scissors.
• Prepare surfaces for insulation application by brushing or spreading on adhesives, cement, or asphalt, or by attaching metal pins to surfaces.
• Covers or seals insulation with preformed plastic covers, canvas strips, sealant, or tape to secure insulation to structure, according to type of insulation used and structure covered, using staple gun, trowel, paintbrush, or caulking gun.
• Follows all hazardous waste handling guidelines.
• May remove or seal off old asbestos insulation, following safety procedures.
• Completes records, maintains tools and equipment, and performs various clean-up and housekeeping activities.
• Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules, including wearing required personal safety equipment. Performs other duties as required.

Physical Demands:

• Employees will be required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting and lifting.
• Will talk and hear to communicate.
• Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, pull: objects, materials, controls and tools.
• May be required to lift, carry and move up to 50lbs.
• Will occasionally work at heights, climb ladders and stairways and work off of platforms.
• Will use vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, colors, depth perception and peripheral vision.
• Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves and steel-toe boots.

Work Environment:

• Will work in all weather conditins ranging from warm/hot – cool/cold. Occasional rain.
• Will work at different elevations. Noise levels will be moderate to high.
• Job site will contain light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment and tools.
• People standing, walking, sitting, signaling and talking. Bells, whistles and alarms.
