Job summary

GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. in Manhattan is seeking an Instrumentation Technician to support field and office tasks for geotechnical instrumentation projects. You will install equipment, perform readings, maintain gear, visit sites, and help manage the instrument fleet.

Job description

GZA has an immediate need for an Instrumentation Technician in our Manhattan office located at 104 W 29th Street in New York, NY. This position will include both field and office tasks related to the implementation and management of various geotechnical and structural instrumentation projects.

The fieldwork will include equipment installation, manual readings, equipment maintenance, site visits, and other project site activities. The majority of the field work will be performed on active construction sites.

The office role will involve inventory management, testing instruments prior to mobilization, preparing field reports, preparing monitoring figures, generating monitoring reports, programming, and organizing the instrument fleet.

The management of equipment typically includes cameras, water level indicators, electrical resistivity equipment, vibration monitors, data loggers, automated motorized total stations, cellular modems, sensors, and associated hardware. The ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. is required.

The ideal candidate for this position should have strong communication skills and be motivated to work as part of a team dedicated to the successful implementation of monitoring programs as outlined in project proposals and related documents. This position requires someone who is detail-oriented, energetic, handy, responsive, responsible, punctual, and self-motivated. The successful candidate will be eager to learn and have an interest in electronics, computer technology, and their application to geotechnical engineering and design. This person will work under the direct supervision of a Project Manager. Training for project-specific tasks will be provided.

It is anticipated that the majority of the work will occur during normal business hours; however, the position requires flexibility to travel and to work nights and weekends when necessary.

  • Ability to work outdoors during all seasons
  • Ability to use harnesses, ladders, and personnel lifts

The base salary range for this position is $70,000 to $90,000, depending on experience and capabilities, which will be assessed during the interview process.
