Job summary

ASARCO LLC is seeking an instrumentation technician responsible for maintenance and installation of process instrumentation in mining/heavy industry environments. You will perform preventive and corrective maintenance, calibrations, and parts management while supporting engineers and field teams.

Strong knowledge of Allen-Bradley systems, instrumentation, and safety standards is essential. The role involves reading schematics, testing with standard equipment, and documenting results.

Qualifications

• Ladder logic and troubleshooting with Allen-Bradley RSLogix family.
• HMI project development and modification with RSView family.
• Data transfer via Serial, Data Highway+, ControlNet and Ethernet.
• In-depth knowledge of process instrumentation including sensors and devices.
• Reading instrument loop diagrams, data sheets and PID diagrams.
• Repair, testing and calibration of valves.
• Pressure instrument calibration and dead-weight bench testing.
• Understanding of VFD drives and rectifiers.
• Low voltage control systems and fiber optics.
• Safe use of test equipment for calibration and diagnostics.
• Blueprint reading and mechanical math knowledge.
• Clear verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Read schematics and instructions to assemble electronics units and apply electronic theory.
• Test electronics units with standard equipment and evaluate performance.
• Perform preventative maintenance and calibration of equipment and systems.
• Assemble and maintain circuitry per manuals and engineering direction.
• Adjust and replace defective circuitry using tools and soldering iron.
• Identify and resolve malfunctions with suppliers as needed.
• Maintain logs and manuals documenting testing and operation.
• Provide user applications and engineering support for upgrades.
• Assist users and diagnose product usage issues.
• Build prototypes from sketches and plans.
• Draft circuitry and documentation under engineers' direction using CAD.
• Develop and upgrade preventative maintenance procedures.

Job description

Responsible for the instrumentation maintenance program in their assigned areas including preventive and corrective maintenance, spare parts management, and projects are assigned by the supervisor

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Read blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, and engineering instructions for assembling electronics units, applying knowledge of electronic theory and components
• Test electronics units, using standard test equipment, and analyze results to evaluate performance and determine need for adjustment.
• Perform preventative maintenance and calib ration of equi pment and systems.
• Assemble, test, and maintain circuitry or electronic components according to engineering instructions, technical manuals, and knowledge of electronics, using hand and power tools.
• Adjust and replace defective or improperly functioning circuitry and e lectronics components, using hand tools and soldering iron. Write reports and record data on testing techniques, laboratory equipment, and specifications to a ssist engineers.
• Identify and resolve equipment malfunctions, working with manufacturers and field representatives as necessary to p rocure replacement parts.
• Maintain system logs and manuals to document testing and operation of equipment.
• Provide user applications and engineering support and recommendations for new and existing equipment w it regard to installation, upgrades, and enhancement.
• Provide customer support and education, working with users to i dentify needs, d etermine sources of problems, and to provide information on product use.
• Build prototypes from rough sketches or plans
• Design basic circuitry and draft sketches for clarification of details and design documentation under engineers' direction, using drafting instruments and computer aided design (CAD) equipment.
• Write computer or microprocessor software programs. Develop and upgrade preventative maintenance procedures for components, equipment, parts, and systems.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Ladder logic programming and troubleshooting using the Allen-BradleyRSLogixfamily ofprogramming software.
• HMI project development and modification using the Allen-BradleyRSViewfamily of developmental software.
• Data transfer via Serial, Data Highway +, ControlNetand Ethernet protocols.
• Through knowledge of measurement and control instrumentation equipment used in industrial process controlincludingtemperature, level, pressure, flow, density, particle size, Ph/ORP, conductivity, and material weight instruments.
• Proficient in reading and understanding instrument loop diagrams, instrument data/specsheetsand PID diagrams.
• Troughknowledge of repair, testing and calibration of electrical,pneumatic,and electro-hydraulic control valves.
• Dead-weight bench testing and calibration of pressure instruments.
• VFD drives.
• AC to DC rectifiers.
• Low voltage control systems.
• Fiber optics.
• Proficient in the safe use of a variety of test equipment used for the proper calibration,setup,and diagnostics of process instrumentation equipment.
• Blueprint reading, one-line power and control diagrams, mechanical math skills.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• 5 Years'experienceinmaintenanceand installation of process instrumentation in a miningorheavy industry environment preferred.
• Accredited apprenticeship or formal vocational training in the instrumentation field or Bachelor's degree with previous industrial experience
• High school diploma or GED certificate.
• Knowledge of NFPA 70B (Recommended Practice for Electrical Equipment Maintenance) Knowledge of NFPA 70E (Electrical Safety in the Workplace )
