Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Instrument Engineering required.
  • 5–10 years of experience in instrumentation and control systems for industrial facilities.
  • Knowledge of Control Philosophy and Control Logic development.
  • Familiar with Allen Bradley/Rockwell, Yokogawa, ABB, Siemens, or Honeywell.
  • Experience with instrument indexes, I/O lists, etc.
  • Knowledge of ANSI/NEMA/NFPA/API/UL/ISA/IEEE/IEC standards.
  • Ability to work within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience managing multiple workscopes.
  • Advanced technical writing skills.
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills, Excel.
  • Willingness and ability to travel; overtime may be required.
  • Ability to interact with staff at all levels.
  • Experience in electrical design related to power generation, distribution, protection and related controls preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of Control System Philosophy and Narrative documents.
  • Preparation of instrument datasheets.
  • Perform instrumentation cable sizing calculations and selection.
  • Sizing of PLC controllers, I/O cards, switches, relays, and terminal blocks.
  • Preparation and review of test and commissioning procedures.
  • Work with instrumentation design team in preparing wiring, tray layouts, process connections and supports.
  • Preparation of loop sheets, junction box layouts, control panel layouts, I/O Lists, Cause & Effect Matrices.
  • Review and checking of vendor packages.
  • Preparation of fabrication, construction, and installation details.
  • Preparation of design, bid and construction packages.
  • Provide engineering specifications and support to procurement of equipment, skidded packages, control systems and buildings.
  • Participate in cost estimates (BOM, MTO).
  • Participate in pre-commissioning and commissioning activities.
  • Participate in factory acceptance testing of packaged equipment and systems.
  • International and domestic travel may be required.

Job Summary

The Instrumentation Engineer will work with ateam of engineers, drafters, and other disciplines to ensure the integrateddesign deliverables meet project requirements. This will include reviewing andunderstanding client provided specifications and all applicable codes andstandards.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Preparation of Control System Philosophy andNarrativedocuments;
  • Preparation of instrument datasheets;

  • Sizing of primary control system elements suchas PLC controllers, digital/analog input and output cards, switches,relays/contactors, and terminal blocks;
  • Preparation and review of test and commissioningprocedures;
  • Work with the instrumentation design team inpreparing construction drawings depicting wiring, tray layouts, processconnections, andsupports;
  • Preparation of loop sheets, junction boxlayouts, control panel layouts, I/O Lists, Cause & EffectMatrices

Qualifications, Knowledges, Skills andAbilities
  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical or Instrument Engineeringrequired;
  • Five (5) to ten (10) years experience with the designand implementation of instrumentation andcontrolssystems for industrial facilities, oil and gas industry, onshore gasprocessing, hydrocarbon storage and transportation, chemical manufacturing orrefining;
  • Knowledge of Control Philosophy and Control Logicdevelopment;
  • Must be familiar with control and safety systems such asAllen Bradley/Rockwell, Yokogawa, ABB, Siemens, orHoneywell;
  • Experience with preparing instrument indexes, I/O lists,etc.required;
  • Knowledge and experience with appropriate portions ofANSI/NEMA/NFPA/API/UL/ISA/IEEE/IEC codes and standards;
  • Ability to work within project centered multi-disciplineteams;
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple workscopes;
  • Advance technical writing skills with the ability toeffectively verbalize technicalinformation;
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills with proficiency in Excelrequired;
  • Requires the ability and availability to work overtimeand the ability to travel to offsite (including offshore) locations (mayrequire multi-daytrips);
  • Ability to interact with staff at alllevels.
  • Experience in an Electrical Engineering role includingelectrical design with regard to power generation, distribution, protection andrelated controls systems is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • P.E.licensepreferred;
  • Experience working inhazard analysis teams (HAZOP, HAZAN, HAZID)preferred;
  • Experience in the useand application of IEC 61511 for Safety Systemspreferred.
Working Conditions
  • Workis primarily conducted in an office environment (Private or Semi-Privateoffice) but may require occasional travel to off-site worklocations;
  • Fieldduties may require outdoor work in a plant;
  • Interactionwith other team members, as well as supervisors and clientpersonnel;Working offshore or inplant and/or shop areas around production machinery with extreme noise levels;
  • Must be able to wearsafety equipment as required by the safety department for personal protection;
  • Maybe at more than one job site in a day and must be able to tolerate climatechanges;
  • May be required to travel out of town on aperiodic basis.
