Job description

The University of Virginia is seeking an Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Technician for Facilities Management's Energy and Utilities Department: Process Controls. Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic, and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair, and maintenance of UVA’s buildings, infrastructure, and grounds, in addition to managing capital construction and renovation for University-owned and leased properties.

I&C Technicians install, calibrate, configure, program, modify, diagnose and repair electronic, computerized, pneumatic, and electro-mechanical equipment up to 480v. They perform preventative and corrective maintenance to distributed control systems (DCS), continuous emissions monitoring systems (CEMS) and all associated equipment. I&C Technicians work predominantly independent but are required to collaborate with fellow technicians, contractors, operators and vendors as needed. They report directly to the Process Control Manager. I&C Technicians ensure safe, accurate and compliant operational environments that are maintained throughout their areas of assignment within the University primarily but not limited to the Heating Plants and other areas within Energy and Utilities as assigned.

Duties include:
  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot industrial control and electrical equipment according to specifications.
  • Assist in inventory control measures.
  • Participate in safety LOTO program.
  • Participate in training activities.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications:

Education: High School diploma or equivalent.

Licensure: ISA-CCST Level 1 and ASOPE PIII or ability to obtain within 1 year.

Experience: Two years of experience with related electronic equipment. Familiarity with Delta V DCS, Automated Logic BAS, PLC’s, Rosemount, HART communication, Rosemount Analytical CEMS, Stackvision or overall similar equipment is preferred.

Compensation:

The Anticipated Hiring Range for this position is $25.00 to $30.00 per hour ($52,000 - $62,400 Annually), commensurate with experience. Employees new to the University are eligible for a $2,500 sign on bonus. This is a full-time position with UVA benefits. Employee benefits package highlights include:

Physical Demands:

This is primarily an active job involving the use of hand tools, testing equipment and computers. The job requires traveling to all Energy and Utilities areas of responsibility.
