Primary Responsibilities
  • Assist in the design and development of instrumentation and control systems.
  • Develop instrument lists, instrument indexes, I/O lists, and instrument datasheets.
  • Support development of control system architecture drawings and network diagrams.
  • Develop loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, interconnection diagrams, control panel layouts, terminal drawings, and instrument installation details.
  • Assist in development and review of P&IDs.
  • Support development of control narratives, sequences of operation, cause‑and‑effect diagrams, and control philosophies.
  • Support instrumentation, PLC, DCS, SCADA, HMI, RTU, Building Automation System (BAS), Energy Management System (EMS), and industrial automation projects.
  • Coordinate with electrical, mechanical, process, civil, structural, and architectural engineering teams.
  • Support development of equipment specifications, procurement packages, and technical evaluations.
  • Review vendor drawings, equipment submittals, and technical documentation.
  • Participate in FAT, SAT, startup, and commissioning activities.
  • Conduct field walks, site investigations, equipment assessments, and engineering evaluations at client facilities.
  • Support proposal preparation, technical presentations, and engineering studies.
  • Travel as required to support project meetings, field investigations, construction activities, startup, testing, and commissioning.
Position Level Guidelines
Instrumentation & Controls Engineer I

Candidates should demonstrate developing engineering competency and the ability to perform instrumentation and controls engineering, analysis, and design tasks under general supervision. Engineers at this level are expected to continue developing technical expertise in instrumentation design, control systems, automation, and engineering documentation while supporting multidisciplinary project teams.

Instrumentation & Controls Engineer II

Candidates should demonstrate the ability to independently perform instrumentation and controls engineering assignments, develop original engineering solutions, coordinate with other disciplines, and participate in client interactions, proposal support, vendor coordination, and field activities.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a closely related Engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in instrumentation and controls engineering, design engineering, consulting engineering, industrial automation, process controls, building automation, utility engineering, or a closely related technical role.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Willingness to perform field walks, site investigations, and engineering evaluations.
  • Ability to travel periodically.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master of Science Degree in Engineering or related discipline.
  • Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) certification.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License.
  • PMP, ISA, NFPA, or other relevant certifications are a plus.
Preferred Software Experience

Experience with one or more of the following software packages is desirable. Candidates are not expected to be proficient in every program listed below and many software packages are similar enough that cross‑training can be provided.
