Job summary

General Atomics is seeking an Instrumentation and Control (I&C) engineer to support the DIII-D program in San Diego, CA. You will oversee design, installation, and optimization of I&C systems, including PLCs, SCADA, sensors, and DAQ devices, while collaborating with scientists and engineers to improve automation and safety compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's, master's, or PhD in engineering or related field with progressive experience.
• Electrical/industrial engineering knowledge and regulatory awareness.
• Experience with industrial electronics, relays, transformers, and sensors.
• Strong communication for reports, drawings, and SOPs.
• Ability to learn quickly and work independently or in teams.
• Familiarity with CAD/ECAD tools and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Oversee design, installation, maintenance, and optimization of I&C systems.
• Manage PLCs, SCADA, sensors, DAQ devices, and signal conditioning.
• Deploy, troubleshoot, and repair analog/digital circuits and PCB designs.
• Read schematics, update PCB designs, and coordinate fabrication.
• Develop technical reports, test plans, and work orders.
• Support data collection and analysis for experimental programs.
• Lead projects and mentor junior engineers when needed.
