Job summary

Middough Inc. is seeking an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to collect and prepare data, perform detailed calculations, and contribute to basic engineering design. The role emphasizes professional growth and collaboration within a senior team.

You will engage in field work, coordinate with other departments and suppliers, and manage multiple projects as part of a larger design group. A hybrid work model is available based on business and client needs.

Qualifications

  • Engineering Technology degree or B.S. in Engineering required.
  • 0-5 years of engineering and design experience in Instrumentation & Controls (or Electrical).
  • EIT certification is a plus.
  • Strong skill set in understanding PFDs, P&IDs, and Cause and Effect matrices.
  • Understanding of NEC/ISA standards.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail abilities.
  • Ability to multitask and organize for project efficiency.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Job description

Instrumentation & Controls Engineer

As an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer with Middough, you will collect and prepare data/information and perform detailed engineering calculations. The I&C Engineer performs basic engineering design for review and approval by senior department personnel. The I&C Engineer demonstrates technical/professional growth annually by maintaining active membership in professional organizations and participating in technical seminars/courses.

Responsibilities
  • Collect and prepare data/information and perform detailed engineering calculations.
  • Assist in field work, check installations, and problem‑solving activities.
  • Interact with other departments and suppliers to obtain pertinent information.
  • Work on multiple projects of various sizes at the same time as a member of a larger design team.
Education, Experience & Skills
  • Engineering Technology degree or Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline required.
  • 0-5 years of engineering and design experience in Instrumentation & Controls (or Electrical).
  • EIT certification is a plus.
  • Strong skill set in understanding PFDs, P&IDs, and Cause and Effect matrices.
  • Understanding of NEC/ISA standards.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and attention-to-detail abilities.

Physical Requirements
  • Remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Frequently walk, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop or kneel, bend or twist, use repetitive motions that may include the wrists/hands/fingers and talk and hear.
  • Frequently use up-close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Should not expect adverse environmental conditions within company offices.
  • May be exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as climbing ladders and/or stairs, extreme heat and/or cold, and/or poor air quality) if or when on‑site at a client facility. Noise levels may be moderate to high at various client sites; hearing protection may be required and/or provided. Safety protections provided by the client and/or company are required to be used and followed.
  • May require occasional car or air travel to other company locations or client sites.
  • This position requires the candidate/employee to possess and maintain a valid driver's license in their state of residence and auto insurance coverage.
