Our Power Generation business provides engineering, design, commissioning, and startup support for utility-scale power generation facilities, including combined cycle power plants, simple cycle plants, and thermal generation facilities. The Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer will support the design and implementation of instrumentation and control systems for power plant projects throughout the full project lifecycle, including conceptual design, detailed engineering, procurement, construction support, commissioning, and startup. This role will focus on the engineering and integration of control systems for major power generation equipment, including gas turbines, steam turbines, heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs), boilers, generators, and balance-of-plant systems.
Job Responsibilities
- Develop and support Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) engineering designs for power generation facilities, including combined cycle, simple cycle, and thermal power plants.
- Design and support plant instrumentation, control systems, and physical I&C layouts including DCS, PLC, SCADA, SIS, HMI, and turbine control systems.
- Develop I&C engineering deliverables including instrument indexes, I/O lists, control narratives, logic diagrams, cause & effect diagrams, loop drawings, instrument specifications, and control system architecture documents.
- Perform physical design and layout of I&C systems, including instrument locations, control panels, junction boxes, cable routing, cable tray layouts, conduit routing, and underground duct bank designs for power generation facilities.
- Support electrical and I&C raceway design activities including cable tray sizing, conduit design, cable separation requirements, cable schedules, grounding, equipment connections, and coordination with electrical and civil disciplines.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams including Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Process, and Construction teams to develop integrated power plant designs and resolve field installation issues.
- Interface with OEMs, vendors, and equipment suppliers to review technical documentation, equipment layouts, control system interfaces, and installation requirements.
- Support project execution activities including construction support, commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, field walkdowns, and providing technical guidance to junior engineering staff.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation & Controls Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in power generation I&C engineering, design, or commissioning.
- Experience supporting combined cycle power plants, simple cycle plants, thermal generation facilities, or utility-scale power projects.
- DCS systems
- PLC systems
- SCADA systems
- Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)
- Experience developing I&C engineering deliverables from conceptual design through construction and startup.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary EPC project teams.
- Ability to interpret and develop instrumentation drawings, control diagrams, and technical specifications.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or related engineering discipline from an accredited university.
