Job summary

Qualifications

Job description

The Lockport Cogeneration Facility in Lockport, NY, is a 198 MW combined heat and power facility featuring three GE Frame 6B combustion turbines, three heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs), and a steam turbine generator. Operating year-round, the facility reliably supplies electricity and up to 315,800 pounds per hour of process steam to the host facility.

Opportunity Summary

The Instrumentation, Controls, and Electrical (IC&E) Technician supports safe, reliable, and efficient operations at the Lockport Cogeneration Facility by calibrating, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing instrumentation, control systems, and electrical equipment. This position supports plant automation, turbine controls, process steam systems, and electrical distribution through preventive and corrective maintenance while working with Operations and Maintenance to improve reliability and plant performance.

Your scope of responsibility as IC&E Technician includes the following primary functions:

• Calibrate, test, maintain, troubleshoot, and install plant instrumentation and controls, including control valves, transmitters, analyzers, and associated field devices.
• Perform preventive, predictive, corrective, and emergency maintenance on switchgear, motor control centers, motors, transformers, variable speed drives, batteries, chargers, inverters, and generator excitation systems.
• Maintain and troubleshoot PLC, DCS, SCADA, and plant automation systems, including hardware, software, communications, and control logic.
• Diagnose and resolve issues with combustion turbine, HRSG, steam turbine, and process steam instrumentation and controls, including turbine, combustion, burner management, and condition monitoring systems.
• Conduct electrical and instrumentation testing, including functional, loop, and equipment testing, and troubleshoot protective devices and associated electrical systems.
• Assist with plant startups, shutdowns, testing, commissioning, and equipment troubleshooting in coordination with Operations and Maintenance.
• Participate in outages, system modifications, and capital projects, including equipment installation, control verification, and coordination with contractors and vendors.
• Monitor equipment and control system performance, identify root causes, and recommend improvements to plant reliability, efficiency, and availability.
• Document maintenance and calibration activities, maintain drawings and work orders, and ensure test equipment remains calibrated and ready for use.
• Follow electrical safety, LOTO, environmental, and regulatory requirements, including proper handling of hazardous materials and regulated waste.
• Perform additional duties, special projects, and technical assignments as needed to support safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations.

Working Relationships

The IC&E Technician reports to the O&M Manager, receives general direction from plant management, and works closely with Operations, Maintenance, contractors, vendors, and OEM personnel to support plant maintenance and reliability.

Physical Requirements And Working Conditions

Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, climbing stairs and ladders, working from elevated platforms and walkways at varying heights, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds.

Power plant environment that may involve entering confined spaces, crawling through narrow areas, and handling hazardous materials, with exposure to fumes, extreme temperatures, and noise. Work may include high heat near equipment and varying outdoor weather conditions.

Some duties may require the use of protective equipment, which can include hard hats, safety glasses, and eye protection, air masks/respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, flame-resistant clothing (FRC), hot gloves, high-voltage protective gear, and fall protection. Fit testing for respirators may be required. Strict smoking restrictions apply in and around the facility.

Fitness for Duty

All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program, which includes a post-offer physical examination, drug screening, and post-employment random drug screening.

Work Schedule

The IC&E Technician works a standard Monday to Friday day-shift schedule. This position will require extended hours, flexible shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed to support plant operations and business needs and may also require callout availability. Depending on the position, on-call status may or may not apply.

Compensation

This position offers a base pay rate ranging from $34.91 to $48.88 per hour, along with eligibility for an annual performance bonus.

Technical Experience And Qualifications

• Associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Instrumentation and Control, Electronics Technology, Industrial Electrical Technology, or a related field preferred. Equivalent technical training or relevant industrial or military experience will be considered.
• Experience in power generation or a comparable industrial environment, with knowledge of plant operations, electrical maintenance, safe work practices, and applicable environmental and regulatory requirements.
• Comprehensive knowledge of industrial electrical systems and instrumentation, including switchgear, motor control centers, motors, transformers, batteries, chargers, inverters, generator excitation systems, control valves, transmitters, analyzers, and field devices.
• Working knowledge of PLC, DCS, SCADA, turbine control, combustion control, burner management, HRSG/boiler control, and condition monitoring systems, with the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot system faults.
• Demonstrated ability to install, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot instrumentation, electrical, and control systems supporting combustion turbines, HRSGs, steam systems, and other plant equipment.
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills to evaluate equipment and control system performance, identify root causes, and recommend improvements to plant reliability and performance.
• Experience working with Operations, Maintenance, contractors, vendors, and OEM personnel during maintenance, outages, system modifications, and improvement projects.
• Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings and documentation, maintaining accurate maintenance and calibration records, and communicating effectively with plant personnel.
• Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times.
