Job summary

The University of Virginia is seeking an Instrument Calibration Technician to calibrate, verify, and document sensors and instruments across more than 600 buildings. You will work with field devices in diverse environments, diagnose drift, and ensure compliant calibration records.

This role partners with BAS technicians and uses Metasys/WebCTRL platforms. Typical tasks include calibrating temperature/pressure/humidity sensors, maintaining documentation, and contributing to safety and regulatory

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2+ years performing instrument calibration or instrumentation maintenance.
• Principles of calibration and measurement accuracy; analog/digital control signals (0-10V, 4-20mA, resistance).
• Proficiency with testing equipment and measurement devices.
• Ability to interpret specifications and tolerances; strong record-keeping.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and corrective calibration of sensors and transmitters across occupied, research, and clinical environments.
• Verify instrument accuracy against certified reference standards and test equipment.
• Diagnose and resolve instrument drift, signal errors, and field device performance failures.
• Inspect instruments for wear or environmental damage and identify failure trends.
• Log work orders and calibration activities in CMMS (AiM or equivalent).
