Overview

About the Job

The Instrumentation and Controls Technician reports to the Electrical Engineer and is responsible for the maintenance, design, and integration of all process control systems on site, focusing on functional, physical, and electrical components to meet site specifications. This role involves programming PLC and HMI systems, installation and testing of electrical equipment, ensuring safety and efficiency in production processes, and maintaining communication across departments to address operational needs. The schedule for this position is 14 days on at the remote mine site located about 45 miles north of Juneau, accessible only through company transportation, and 14 days off.

Responsibilities
  • Stop work for safety concerns, and abide by safety best practices, policies and procedures.
  • Wire, terminate, and test 120v control systems and instrumentations panels per approved schematics.
  • Install, configure, calibrate, and troubleshoot various instrumentation including pressure transmitters, flow meters, belt scales, temperature transmitters, valve controllers, etc.
  • Design and implement PLC code to support the site\'s safety, environmental, and production needs.
  • Support production goals and fixed plant maintenance needs as they arise for control systems modifications.
  • Assist with site-wide equipment specifications as they relate to all aspects of the control systems.
  • Program and configure PLC/HMI/DCS/SCADA systems as needed by production.
  • Design and implementation of network diagrams, loop diagrams, P&ID control depictions, Controls Narrative, and Cause and Effect.
  • Maintain backup files for PLC and HMI programs in the event of a failure to protect against costly downtime.
  • Install, commission, and troubleshoot Variable Frequency Drives and Soft-Start equipment.
  • Install and maintain control network equipment as needed.
  • Assist the Electrical Department with equipment installation and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Work overtime as needed to support production down days, equipment failures/troubleshooting, call-outs, and project commissioning.
  • Maintain a high level of productivity with limited supervision.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Skills
  • Instrumentation Technician Certification or equivalent work experience.
  • Knowledge of PLC, HMI, DCS or SCADA systems.
  • Programming knowledge.
  • Preference given to Alaska.
