Global Edge Group in Baton Rouge, LA seeks an Instrumentation and Controls Engineer with 2+ years of experience to evaluate and execute discipline engineering tasks across projects. You will work with contractors, review drawings, and ensure compliance with specs, safety, and regulatory requirements.

Strong communication and field engagement are essential. Experience with PLCs (Allen-Bradley), RSLogix/FactoryTalk, HMI upgrades, and reading drawings is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related engineering specialty, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Broad knowledge of discipline design standards, specifications, codes, and appropriate safety criteria.
  • Ability to adapt to tight deadlines, heavy workloads, and frequent changes in priorities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of software programs.
  • Read, write, and speak fluent English, especially as it applies to technical and business communications.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate and coordinate discipline engineering technical work products.
  • Coordination and communication of issues among the engineering team that affect design, safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Evaluate / comment work performed by the Contractor and sub-contractors to ensure compliance with specs, standards, and requirements.
  • Identify and assess deviations to Contract Technical Specifications and regulatory requirements; maintain Deviation Control Log.
  • Steward discipline engineering queries from Contractor and sub-contractors as well as technical information requests.
  • Keep Lead Engineer or Engineering Manager informed of progress, deviations, and execution concerns.
  • Participate in discipline engineering reviews at Contractor's and subcontractor's locations.
  • Drives and promotes capital efficiency in engineering design.
  • Support internal engineering initiatives as requested by Supervisor.

Job description

Technology: Excel, Familiar with PLC and HMI systems (Allen-Bradley), software is RSLogix and Factory Talk, language is ladder logic. GE Multiline relays, and Flow-X/OMNI flow computers. At minimum, PLC is required and Allen-Bradley is preferred.
Education: Electrical Engineering degree preferred
Travel: Yes, up to 50% within an hour of work location. Will use company vehicle or be reimbursed for mileage.
MAIN FUNCTIONS

Evaluate and comment on discipline engineering work performed both internally and by Contractors and sub-contractors to ensure that work is being executed in accordance with project specifications, company standards, and regulatory requirements. Facilitates effective execution of discipline engineering and design routines that align with the project's goals, objectives, and procedures. Assures accurate and timely communication among the Project Team and other Company functions on discipline engineering activities, progress, and issues. In addition to technical ability, they should demonstrate sound communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify and assess deviations to Contract Technical Specifications and regulatory requirements; ensure that such deviations will be processed according to project procedures; maintains Deviation Control Log.
  • Steward discipline engineering queries from the Contractor and sub-contractors as well as technical information requests
  • Keep Lead Engineer or Engineering Manager informed of discipline engineering progress, deviations, and execution concerns
  • Participate in discipline engineering reviews at Contractor's and subcontractor's locations
  • Drives and promotes capital efficiency in engineering design
  • Support internal engineering general interest or Global Practice initiatives as requested by Supervisor
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Function: 70% instrumentation and controls/30% electrical; 50% of time in field

Required: 2+ years relevant experience. Proficient with reading drawings, PLC programming, project management, field equipment. Will be performing HMI upgrades, valve and logic updates, troubleshooting. Must be successful interacting with all disciplines and have a willingness to learn. Will be supporting operations and small projects as needed.
