Job summary

Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. in Bellevue, WA seeks an Instrumentation & Control Systems (I&C) Design Engineer to lead P&ID development, control system design, and instrument selection on municipal water projects.

You will coordinate with other disciplines, mentor engineers, and contribute to global projects from design through commissioning. A PE license is preferred and the role offers a hybrid work model.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) or ability to obtain.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience.
  • Process & Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) development.
  • Control panel layout and wiring.
  • Ability to mentor, train, and delegate work to others domestically and abroad.
  • Ability to work outside normal work hours to coordinate with global team members.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development of P&IDs, control narratives, specs, and drawings.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines for cohesive design.
  • Develop and select instruments; draft network and panel drawings.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team growth.
  • Develop control software in PLCs and HMI; support startups/commissioning.
  • Review submittals, conduct site evaluations, and provide recommendations.
  • Communicate with clients and management on progress and upgrades.

As part of our Northwest team in Bellevue, you’ll have the chance to work on projects that bring innovative solutions to our municipal clients’ water challenges locally and worldwide. You’ll get to work with our world-class Instrumentation and Control Systems team dedicated to protecting the most valuable asset in the world, water. You’ll get to work on projects on every aspect from design through onsite startup work. You will enjoy having the deepest technical resources in the industry to support you, access to international work, and Design-Build projects. Using your experience, you'll lead the development of Process & Instrumentation Drawings (P&IDs), control narratives, specifications, network drawings, panel drawings, and instrument selection. You’ll coordinate with other engineering disciplines for a cohesive design. You’ll also contribute to the development and growth of people (e.g. mentoring junior engineers) both domestically and globally. You’ll be able to develop control system software in Programmable Logic Controllers and Human Machine Interfaces and perform facility startups and commissioning activities. As well, you will be able to review constructions submittals, conduct site evaluations, make recommendations for control system upgrades, and communicate with clients and management.

Here’s what you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline from an accredited university or college
  • Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) or ability to obtain
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience:
  • Process & Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) development
  • Control panel layout and wiring
  • Ability to mentor, train, and delegate work to others domestically and abroad
  • Ability to work outside normal work hours at times to coordinate with global team members
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
Ideally, you’ll also have:
  • Experience with PLCs and HMI programming software
  • Experience with MCC and VFD control requirements

The base salary range for this position is $118,300.00 to $207,100.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
