Job summary

Jacobs in Bellevue, WA seeks an experienced Instrumentation & Control Systems (I&CS) Design Engineer to lead P&ID development, instrument selection and control panel wiring for water and municipal projects. You will mentor junior engineers and coordinate with global teams from design through startup.

You will develop PLC/HMI software, review submittals, and support site evaluations and commissioning, ensuring robust, integrated control solutions for complex systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, chemical engineering or related field from an accredited university
• Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) or ability to obtain
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in I&C design and integration
• P&ID development and I/O list development experience
• Instrumentation selection and control panel layout/wiring expertise
• Detailed loop wiring diagrams and PLC equipment list development
• Ability to mentor, train and delegate work
• Willingness to coordinate with a global team and occasional after-hours work
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Responsibilities

• Lead development of P&IDs, control narratives, specifications, network and panel drawings, instrument selection
• Coordinate with other engineering disciplines for cohesive design
• Develop control system software in PLCs and HMI, and perform startups and commissioning

You’ll get to work with our world-class Instrumentation and Control Systems team dedicated to protecting the most valuable asset in the world, water. You’ll get to work on projects on every aspect from design through onsite startup work. You will enjoy having the deepest technical resources in the industry to support you, access to international work, and Design-Build projects. Using your experience, you'll lead the development of Process & Instrumentation Drawings (P&IDs), control narratives, specifications, network drawings, panel drawings, and instrument selection. You’ll coordinate with other engineering disciplines for a cohesive design. You’ll also contribute to the development and growth of people (e.g. mentoring junior engineers) both domestically and globally. You’ll be able to develop control system software in Programmable Logic Controllers and Human Machine Interfaces and perform facility startups and commissioning activities. As well, you will be able to review constructions submittals, conduct site evaluations, make recommendations for control system upgrades, and communicate with clients and management.

Here's what you’ll need

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline from an accredited university or college
• Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) or ability to obtain
• Minimum of 8 years of experience
• I&C Systems Integration design experience
• Process & Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) development
• I/O list development
• Instrumentation selection
• Control panel layout and wiring
• Detailed loop wiring diagrams
• PLC equipment list development
• Ability to mentor, train, and delegate work to others domestically and abroad
• Ability to work outside normal work hours at times to coordinate with global team members
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Ideally, you’ll also have

• Water infrastructure Instrumentation & Controls Systems design experience
• Experience with PLCs and HMI programming software
• Experience with MCC and VFD control requirements

The base salary range for this position is $118,300.00 to $207,100.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
