Project Overview

The Uranium Processing Facility (UPF) at the Y‑12 National Security Complex is a multi‑year, multi‑billion‑dollar project that will replace a 70‑year‑old facility with modern buildings, reduce operational costs, improve worker safety, and provide enriched uranium capabilities. The position provides technical support for UPF startup activities.

Eligibility

Applicants must be U.S. citizens, complete a security questionnaire, and be able to obtain a security clearance. All employees are subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

Job Summary

Assist with technical direction, conduct installation configuration validation, develop work packages, and support planning, turnover coordination, material management, quality control, and environmental safety and health for the site.

Major Responsibilities

• Coordinate startup configuration validation and work package development.
• Plan and schedule CSU execution activities, including sequence and resource requirements.
• Prepare Startup and Test Work Packages.
• Coordinate construction to CSU turnover walk‑downs and collaborate with Field Engineers.
• Initiate requisitions for field purchases and prepare quantity takeoffs.
• Track field purchases and other procurement activities using procurement systems.
• Walk‑down and verify system configuration against design.
• Perform or monitor equipment testing to ensure compliance with specifications and test procedures.
• Identify and elevate ES&H issues, promoting strong ES&H practices.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 2‑5 years of relevant experience, or high school diploma/GED and 6‑9 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills

• In‑depth knowledge of startup testing and commissioning principles and practices.
• Good understanding of construction, engineering practices, and their economics.
• Knowledge of industry and regulatory standards, design criteria, and excellent computer skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills with experience preparing and presenting test procedures and reports.
