Job summary

Protingent is seeking an experienced Instrumentation and Control Engineer in Oak Brook, IL. This role translates system requirements into I&C designs and implements control logic across PLC, FPGA, DCS and SCADA platforms.

Onsite with some remote flexibility may be available. The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Control Systems engineering and 5+ years in regulated environments, with FMEA experience, cybersecurity awareness, and strong cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or related technical field.
• 5+ years hands-on experience in digital I&C platforms (PLC, FPGA, DCS, SCADA, or embedded control system) including configuration, programming, control logic development, and hardware implementation in regulated environments.
• Experience performing or supporting failure analysis, FMEA, testing, verification and validation, including development of test procedures and resolution of design/test issues.
• Proficiency with hardware and software integration across electrical, mechanical, and safety system boundaries.
• Familiarity with cybersecurity implementation practices for industrial control systems.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.

• Professional Engineer (PE) license or working toward licensure.
• Experience with project and contract management.
