Job summary

BCP Engineers & Consultants seeks a Senior I&C Engineer to lead design, development, and implementation of instrumentation and control systems for nuclear modernization and new plant projects. You will supervise complex work, mentor engineers, and ensure compliance with nuclear codes and NRC licensing.

Requires a Master’s or Bachelor’s with 15 years’ experience, plus 10+ years in control systems; PE license preferred.

Qualifications

  • Master’s in engineering ABET/EAC accredited, or Bachelor’s with 15 years’ experience.
  • Minimum 10 years engineering experience with analog/digital control systems.
  • Nuclear plant experience preferred; familiarity with NRC/licensing processes.
  • PE license preferred.

Job description

Location: Candidates can work in Charlotte, NC; Stonington, CT; San Antonio, TX

Estimated Duration of Work Assignment: 12 months (potential to extend)

Hours: Standard work week 40 hrs, project may require 10-20 hours OT as needed

Expenses: GSA Expenses for Site or Corporate travel

  • Project/Work Scope:
  • The Senior I&C Engineer will support nuclear plant modernization, upgrades, and new plant projects through the corporate team. The right candidate for this position will lead the design, development, and implementation of I&C systems that enhance plant safety, reliability, and performance. Expertise in both legacy analog and modern digital control platforms is required, along with the ability to independently manage technical work and support project execution. The role includes leading complex efforts, mentoring engineers, and contributing to critical nuclear projects and deadlines. Responsibilities include:
  • Lead design and implementation of I&C system modifications; develop specifications, calculations, design criteria, and modification packages.
  • Define project scope, technical requirements, and deliverables; design/evaluate control architectures; select/specify instrumentation, control valves, and equipment; define interfaces and I/O requirements.
  • Support digital modernization and legacy system upgrades.
  • Provide technical leadership on complex projects; independently apply engineering principles, standards, and practices; solve complex issues and guide design decisions.
  • Manage scope, schedule, budget, and quality; coordinate with engineers, clients, vendors, and stakeholders; monitor progress and address risks.
  • Ensure designs meet nuclear codes/standards and support NRC regulatory/licensing compliance; participate in reviews, design verification, and QA processes.
  • Review calculations, drawings, and documentation; mentor junior engineers; lead multidisciplinary teams; collaborate with clients and internal disciplines.
  • Perform plant walkdowns and field investigations; support installation, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience/Educational Requirements:
  • Must have a Master’s in Engineering from an ABET/EAC-accredited program, or a Bachelor’s in Engineering from an ABET/EAC-accredited program + 15 years relevant hands‑on experience.
  • Disciplines can include Electrical, Mechanical, Nuclear, Chemical, or Process/Controls Engineering.
  • Candidate must have a Minimum of 10 years engineering experience, including analog and/or digital control systems and leading technical work/projects.
  • It is preferred that the candidate have nuclear power plant experience; knowledge of plant operations/ procedures and licensing/regulatory processes; hands‑on field engineering; expertise in I&C design, digital/DCS systems, control integration, legacy modernization, power generation systems, nuclear codes/standards, or NRC requirements.
  • PE license preferred.
  • Necessary skills for this role include: Strong technical leadership and decision-making; excellent written/verbal/presentation skills; ability to manage multiple priorities; strong analytical/problem-solving, planning, and organizational skills; independent and collaborative work style; customer focus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Physical Requirements: May be required to obtain/maintain unescorted nuclear facility access; pass security screening and drug testing; perform equipment/system walkdowns in industrial environments (including climbing ladders, elevated areas, confined/controlled spaces); work overtime as needed; travel periodically to client/project sites.
