Job summary

Turner Staffing Group is seeking an Instrumentation & Automation Technician to support a mine restart project at the Thompson Creek Mine in Idaho. This project-based role supports the site team with instrumentation, controls, and electrical maintenance throughout the mill.

Journeyperson technicians or qualified third-year apprentices are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, mechanically inclined, and capable of working under site leadership in an active industrial

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Replace apron feeder controllers and service sensors.
  • Troubleshoot and repair belt speed sensors and controls.
  • Support installation and connection of mill sensors and probes.
  • Work under site leadership with instrumentation, automation, and controls tasks.
  • Inspect areas, follow electrical standards, and maintain safety practices.

Job description

Turner Staffing Group is seeking an Instrumentation & Automation Technician to support a mine restart project at the Thompson Creek Mine. This is a project-based position working directly for Turner Staffing Group and supporting the site team with instrumentation, controls, and electrical maintenance activities throughout the mill.

Journeyperson technicians and qualified third-year apprentices are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, mechanically inclined, and comfortable working under the direction of site leadership in an active industrial environment.

Schedule

Candidates may work one of the following schedules based on project needs:

  • Monday-Friday: 10-hour shifts
  • 7 days on / 7 days off: 12-hour shifts, beginning Wednesday and ending Tuesday
Key Responsibilities
  • Replace apron feeder controllers.
  • Troubleshoot and repair belt speed sensors.
  • Remove loose, abandoned, or hanging cables from various areas of the mill.
  • Support the installation and connection of flowmeters, probes, and other mill sensors.
  • Assist with instrumentation, automation, and controls work under the guidance of the site team.
  • Inspect work areas and equipment before beginning assigned tasks.
  • Follow site procedures, electrical standards, and lockout/tagout requirements.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas.
  • Communicate work status, equipment concerns, and safety hazards to site supervision.
  • Perform additional project-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Journeyperson Instrumentation Technician, Automation Technician, or equivalent industrial experience preferred.
  • Qualified third-year instrumentation or electrical apprentices will be considered.
  • Experience working with industrial instrumentation, controls, sensors, or automation systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair instrumentation and control components.
  • Experience in mining, mineral processing, manufacturing, or another heavy industrial environment preferred.
  • Ability to read basic electrical drawings, schematics, and equipment documentation.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow direction and work effectively as part of a site-based team.
  • Strong commitment to safe work practices.
  • Reliable attendance and transportation to the project site.
Work Environment

This position is based at an active mine and mill restart project. Work may be performed around operating or de-energized industrial equipment, conveyors, electrical systems, uneven walking surfaces, elevated work areas, dust, noise, and changing weather conditions.

Employees must be able to wear required personal protective equipment and comply with all Turner Staffing Group and site-specific safety requirements.
