Job summary

University Health System is seeking an Instrument Tech in Sterile Processing to support direct patient care by ensuring OR staff receive correct, sterile surgical instruments in a timely manner. You will perform decontamination, prep and pack, sterilization, and dispatch with accuracy and professionalism.

Responsibilities include maintaining procedures, building knowledge of instrument handling standards, and ensuring compliance with departmental policies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• CRCST certification must be obtained within 12 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Deliver fully functional instruments to the Operating Room in a timely manner.
• Maintain knowledge of sterilization standards, procedures, and storage practices.

POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary purpose of Sterile Processing is to assist in direct patient care by ensuring the Operating Room staff has correct, fully functional, sterile surgical instrumentation delivered in a timely manner consistent with the highest standards of customer service. Instrument Techs are asked to perform the four basic departmental functions (decontamination, prep and pack, sterilization, and dispatch) with efficiency, expertise, and accuracy. The manner in which an Instrument Tech will perform these duties will be characterized by resourcefulness, determination, courtesy, and professionalism. Techs are expected to build and maintain a comprehensive body of knowledge with respect to the standards and procedures associated with the preparation, sterilization, storage, and delivery of surgical instrumentation. Complies with UHand Departmental policies.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalent experience is required. National certification through the International Association of Healthcare Service Materiel Management as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) is required within one (1) year from the date of hire. Experience within University Health System is preferred.
