Job summary

Mercy San Juan Medical Center is seeking an Instrument Tech to ensure sterilization, cleanliness, and readiness of surgical instruments and trays. You will operate sterilization equipment, sterilize instruments, and maintain accurate records in a fast-paced surgical environment.

The role requires completion of a certified sterile processing program and facility training, with attention to detail and strict adherence to infection control protocols.

Qualifications

• Completion of Certified Sterile Processing program.
• Experience with sterilization principles in a hospital setting.
• Knowledge of infection prevention and control practices.
• Familiarity with endoscopy and OR environment is a plus.
• CPR/BLS certification or ability to obtain upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Follows department and facility policies and protocols for infection control and safe work environment.
• Operates sterilization equipment, disinfects, assembles, and packages surgical instruments and trays.
• Inspects and prepares instruments to meet end user requirements.
• Performs disinfection and sterilization of instruments and documents parameters.
• Conducts routine maintenance on equipment and maintains required documentation.
• Communicates results and any issues to the department leadership.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As an Instrument Tech, you will ensure the availability, cleanliness, and functionality of surgical instruments and equipment.Every day you will meticulously clean, sterilize, assemble, and inspect surgical instruments and trays, operating sterilization equipment and maintaining accurate records.To be successful, you will demonstrate meticulous attention to detail, a comprehensive understanding of sterilization principles, and efficiency in a fast-paced environment, ensuring all instruments are sterile and ready.

• Follows department and facility Policies, Procedures, and Protocols; internal and external, for infection control by wearing proper attire for assigned area and maintain safe work environment by following universal precautions at all times.
• Using proper techniques at all times processes and decontaminates instruments and equipment.
• Based on department and facility Policies, Procedures, and Protocols; internal and external, inspects, assembles and packages surgical instruments and equipment ensuring items meet end user expectations.
• Performs disinfection and sterilization of instruments and equipment, validates and documents appropriate parameters based on Policies, Procedures, and Protocols; internal and external.
• Performs routine testing and maintenance on equipment; washing, disinfecting and sterilizing equipment based on Policies, Procedures, and Protocols; internal and external.
• Per Policies, Procedures, and Protocols; internal and external, completes all required documentation, communicating to department leader/designee any results not meeting established parameters.

Job Requirements

Required

• Completion of Certified Sterile Processing program. and Sterile Processing in an Operating Room and/or Endoscopy environment, upon hire and
• 6 months (or when staffing is able to accommodate training, management will consider Instrument Techs who have graduated from an accredited sterile processing program program and completed an externship at Mercy San Juan Central Sterilization Department.
• Cert Sterile Processing Dist Tech, upon hire or
• Certified Sterile Processing and Dist Supervisor, upon hire or
