Job summary

AHMC HealthCare is seeking an Instrument Tech in Daly City, California, responsible for cleaning and sterilizing surgical instruments for patient care. This role works to ensure all instruments meet the highest standards of sterility and assists in maintaining efficient operations within the Surgery Department.

Ideal candidates will hold a high school diploma, possess central Service Technician Certification, and demonstrate operational understanding of sterilization procedures and aseptic techniques.

Job description

The Instrument Tech is responsible for cleaning, decontaminating, processing, assembling, storing, and distributing instrumentation used in providing surgical services. Assists as needed in running errands, room turnover, and patient transportation.

Position Specific Duties (Other Duties May Be Assigned)

• Decontaminates, inspects, assembles, wraps and sterilizes surgical instruments and minor floor trays in accordance with department policy and procedure.
• Operates steam sterilizer, washer sterilizer, sonic cleaner, Sterrad, sterilizer and heat sealer.
• Runs a daily biological test in any sterilizer used and records load contents prior to sterilization.
• Assists in training of new associates.
• Assists manager/Supervisor, Sterile Processing, in identifying instruments and supply needs.
• Retrieves soiled equipment and instruments from nursing units and Surgery as outlined in department guidelines. Makes additional soiled rounds as necessary.
• Operate and maintain the IMPRESS-surgical tracking system & other computer systems.
• Coordinates and communicates critical information with the Surgery Department, through documentation in instrumentation sets, written and verbally, etc.
• Handles and stores sterile supplies; assuring that package integrity is not compromised.
• Assists in other duties, including answering phones/doorbells.
• Maintains a good working relationship with the Surgery Department.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Knows the function of all areas of Sterile Processing and willingly moves to work needed done when tasks in assigned area are completed. Does not have to be told what to do next.

Qualifications / Job Requirements

Education

High school diploma or equivalent.

Certifications /Licensure

Completion and maintenance of central Service Technician Certification.

• Demonstrates a working knowledge of identification, cleaning, care and maintenance of instrumentation and equipment.
