Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year SPD experience; 3 years preferred.
  • Obtain CRST certification upon 1 year of hire.

Position: Instrument Processing Technician

The Instrument Processing Technician provides cleaning, decontamination, assembly processing, and sterilization of instruments, trays, and endoscopes. Also assembles case carts with needed surgical supplies.

Qualifications
  • Minimum Required: High School diploma or GED; Associate’s degree preferred.
  • Certification: Obtain CRST certification upon 1 year of hire and maintain current registration.
  • Experience: Minimum 1 year SPD experience; 3 years preferred.
Responsibilities
  1. Decontamination: Disassembles, cleans, and disinfects instruments using manual and mechanical processes; operates decontamination equipment; unloads and processes case carts; follows universal precautions; tracks instruments using computer systems.
  2. Assembly and Packing: Unloads instruments, assembles trays and packs following protocols, applies sterilization wrappers, uses heat sealers, labels items correctly, transports trays, and utilizes barcode technology for tracking.
  3. Sterilization: Operates sterilizers (Steam, Plasma, Steris), documents loads, performs biological monitoring, handles and restocks sterile supplies, maintains cleanliness and safety standards.
  4. Case Cart Assembly: Produces pick sheets, pulls instruments and supplies accurately.
  5. Additional Duties: Participates in QA activities, assists in training, attends meetings, communicates courteously, delivers equipment, and fulfills on-call requirements.
