Job summary

Virgin Islands Water Authority seeks an Instrument Maintenance Supervisor to oversee the adjustment, calibration, inspection and maintenance of plant instrumentation. Overtime may be required to ensure 24/7 service continuity.

The role involves performing Orsat analyses, troubleshooting faults, maintaining records, planning preventative maintenance, enforcing safety standards, and supervising staff in instrument operations.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in instrument engineering with 4+ years' experience in installation, maintenance, calibration.

Job description

The Instrument Maintenance Supervisor performs work requiring a high degree of skill in supervising the adjustment, calibration, inspection, repair, maintenance, and installation of all types of plant instrumentation. Because the Authority’s primary responsibility is to maintain twenty-four (24) hours of service to its customers, an employee in this class is expected to work overtime as conditions demand and to accept overtime on short notice, during emergencies, or unusual conditions.

• Takes Orsat and other analytical tests; analyzes and troubleshoots faults in the operation of instruments and control equipment, and makes correct adjustments or repairs
• Works closely with other maintenance department personnel in carrying out work assignments; prepares and maintains records on instruments and repairs
• Reports abnormal conditions to the manager of maintenance; maintains correct inventories of spare parts on all plant instruments and other parts as deemed necessary
• Establishes and conducts a planned preventative maintenance schedule on all instruments; studies plant maintenance trouble log and correct instrument malfunctions
• Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations
• Assigns work to workers and reviews completed work to ensure that work is completed in accordance with specifications and instructions
• Trains and orients new employees to the routines of the operations
• Analyzes and resolves work problems; may confer with workers’ representatives to resolve grievances
• Recommends or initiates personnel action such as employment, promotions, transfers, and disciplinary measures; evaluates employee performance
• Performs work in accordance with safety regulations, company policy, and OSHA standards

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assigns work to workers and reviews completed work to ensure that work is completed in accordance with specifications and instructions
• Evaluates employees' work performance and makes recommendations for improving and upgrading their skills
• Recommends or initiates personnel actions such as promotions, transfers, and disciplinary measures
• Analyzes and resolves work problems; may confer with workers’ representatives to resolve grievances
• Maintains tools, equipment, and work area in a clean and orderly manner; ensures that employees observe all safety rules and regulations
• Performs all work in accordance with safety regulations, company policy, and OSHA standards

• Thorough knowledge of electronic instrumentation and control loops and equipment, and their skilled use as required in the work
• Thorough knowledge of layout, construction, functions, and operation of all plant instruments and control devices
• Thorough knowledge of practical and efficient methods of instrument and controls repair and maintenance work
• Thorough knowledge of safety rules, practices, and procedures applicable to the work
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and manuals
• Ability to operate and utilize personal computers and related peripherals
• Ability to maintain a productive staff relationship with maintenance and operations personnel

Graduation from an accredited college with an Associate degree in instrument, mechanical, electrical, and electronic engineering, and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in the installation, maintenance, repair, and calibration of pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical instruments and remote control equipment. Four (4) years must have been as an Instrument Technician 1st Class.
