Job summary

John H. Carter Company is seeking an Instrument Technician for seasonal, on-site field services to support instrumentation installations, calibration, start-up and commissioning.

You will diagnose issues, perform troubleshooting and provide customer training while ensuring safety and quality standards are met. The role requires knowledge of PLCs, DCS and SCADA systems, plus the ability to read schematics and work both independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree and three (3) years of relevant experience OR High School Diploma and five (5) years of relevant experience as an Instrument Technician or a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of instrumentation and control systems, including PLCs, DCS and SCADA systems.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings and schematics.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
  • Working as self-directed field/shop environment worker.
  • Experience with bending and running tubing is preferred.
  • TWIC, OSHA Safety, Security Passport.
  • Valid State issued driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Performs on-site field services to support instrumentation installations and commissioning.

  • Partner with sales to improve customer satisfaction and service growth.
  • Complete required reports and documentation accurately.
  • Adhere to safety and quality rules.
  • Travel as needed within the ControlWorx Territory.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.

Instrument Technician - Seasonal Workforce
  • Performs on-site demand and contract field services to support the customers’ installed based for instrumentation, to include diagnostic, troubleshooting, calibration and start-up and commissioning services. Recommends approaches on repairs, replacements and upgrades.
  • Provides informal and on-the-job customer training.
  • Effectively communicates customer needs and opportunities to the organization; and utilizes technical skills and abilities to develop tactics and strategies to support those customer needs.
  • Partners with the sales team to execute tactics and strategies to improve customer satisfaction and service growth through available service programs.
  • Reports performance measures toward goals.
  • Executes timely completion of all required reports, certificates and relevant documents.
  • Adheres to all safety and quality rules and regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is essential for this position.
