Job summary

Responsibilities

Summary

The Instrument Fitter is responsible for the installation, assembly, layout, maintenance, and repair of instrumentation systems and associated tubing, supports, and components used in industrial and process facilities. This position works from drawings, blueprints, specifications, and verbal instructions to ensure instrumentation systems are installed safely, accurately, and in accordance with project requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of experience as an Instrument Fitter in an industrial, petrochemical, refinery, manufacturing, or construction environment preferred.

Essential Functions

• Install, assemble, and secure instrument tubing, supports, brackets, and related components.
• Measure, cut, bend, thread, and route tubing according to project specifications and drawings.
• Read and interpret P&IDs, isometric drawings, blueprints, and work packages to determine installation requirements.
• Install and mount transmitters, gauges, control valves, analyzers, and other instrumentation devices.
• Verify proper alignment, spacing, and orientation of instrumentation systems.
• Perform tubing pressure tests, leak checks, and inspections as required.
• Ensure all work meets applicable quality standards, engineering specifications, and customer requirements.
• Coordinate activities with supervisors, engineers, inspectors, and other crafts to meet project schedules.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe and orderly condition.
• Follow all company policies, procedures, and site safety requirements.
• Participate in safety meetings, job hazard analyses, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned in support of project or maintenance activities.

Physical Demands

• Regularly stands, walks, bends, kneels, stoops, crouches, climbs ladders, and works from elevated platforms or scaffolding.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work throughout the scheduled shift.
• Frequently lifts, carries, pushes, and pulls materials, tools, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds; occasionally lifts heavier items with assistance or mechanical lifting devices.
• Identifies and distinguishes wire colors, instrument markings, and component labels.
• Performs repetitive motions involving the hands, wrists, arms, and shoulders.
• Ability to work on uneven, muddy, rocky, or otherwise variable walking and working surfaces.
• Ability to work outdoors in heat, humidity, cold, rain, wind, and other weather conditions.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to:
• hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, high-visibility clothing, steel-toed footwear, FR clothing, fall protection, and other project-specific PPE.
• Work is primarily performed at active industrial construction, maintenance, turnaround, and customer facilities.
• Work may be performed in refinery, petrochemical, chemical, LNG, power generation, manufacturing, and other heavy industrial environments.
• Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, temperature extremes, noise, vibration, dust, dirt, fumes, moving equipment, and other conditions typical of industrial construction and maintenance.
• May work near energized electrical systems, process equipment, rotating machinery, high-pressure systems, and hazardous materials while adhering to all safety procedures.
• Work may require the use of ladders, scaffolds, elevated work platforms, and fall-protection systems.
