Job summary

Polestar Technical Services, Inc. is seeking qualified Instrument Engineer candidates to support project planning and execution across instrument/electrical engineering disciplines. Roles vary from entry to senior levels with opportunities for PE licensure.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instrument or Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience with develop drawings for instrument system diagrams, instrument tabulations, Instrument Loop Diagrams, plan layouts, elevations, wiring and control panels per ISA standards, calculations for control valve sizing, heated enclosure design, process control set points, flow meter sizing, develop specifications, perform engineering calculations, develop statements of work, and develop of design drawings for instrumental systems.
  • Design experience with integration of instrumentation into process monitor and control systems: temperature, pressure, flow, level and pH control loops; valves; transmitters; flow meters.
  • Experience supporting recruiting, onboarding, employee development, and team performance.
  • Knowledgeable in ISA67.04, NFPA 70, NFPA 70E.

Responsibilities

  • Support project planning and work scope execution in the instrument/electrical engineering discipline.
  • Provide engineering services across the instrument engineering spectrum on projects from concept through installation support.
  • Lead or assist based on experience, including PE licensure progression.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and cross-functional teams.

3B4B Role and Responsibilities

Polestar is seeking qualified candidates for Instrument Engineer positions to support project planning and work scope execution. These roles provide engineering services in the instrument/electrical engineering discipline.

Positions are available across multiple labor categories based on experience:

  • Entry Level: 0–2 years of relevant experience
    • Recently graduated and require supervision from senior level. Performs lower complexity design tasks such as calculations, minor modifications, and specifications for equipment. Proficient in use of design software.
  • Mid‑Level: 2–8 years of relevant experience
    • Requires minor supervision. Engineers that are assigned lead role in an engineering discipline on a project from conceptual design through support of installation/construction. This tier is where Engineer obtains PE (Professional Engineer) license.
  • Senior: 8–15 years of relevant experience
    • Operates with complete autonomy, experienced in design strategy. Senior engineers are responsible for system architecture, risk mitigation, and leading multi‑disciplined project teams. They collaborate with Project Managers.
  • Principal: 15+ years of relevant experience
    • Requires specialized discipline expertise. These engineers drive company‑wide technical strategy, mentor less experienced staff, and make crucial
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Instrument or Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience with develop drawings for instrument system diagrams, instrument tabulations, Instrument Loop Diagrams, plan layouts, elevations, wiring and control panels per ISA standards, calculations for control valve sizing, heated enclosure design, process control set points, flow meter sizing, develop specifications, perform engineering calculations, perform engineering evaluations, develop statements of work, and develop of design drawings for instrumental systems.
  • Design experience with integration of the following into process monitor and control systems:
  1. Temperature, pressure, flow, level and pH control loops;
  2. Variety of temperature sensors;
  3. Sizing of variety of control valves for fluid flows;
  4. Absolute, gage and differential pressure transmitters for various process fluids, including corrosive fluids;
  5. Variety of flow measurement instruments, such as venturi tubes, pitot tubes, ultrasonic flowmeters, magnetic flowmeters; positive displacement flowmeters, and thermal mass flowmeters.
  • Experience supporting recruiting, onboarding, employee development, and team performance.
  • Knowledgeable in ISA67.04, Setpoints for Safety-Related Instrumentation Used in Nuclear Power Plants, ISA‑RP67.04.02, Methodologies for the Determination of Setpoints for Nuclear Safety-Related Instrumentation, NFPA 70, National Electrical Code, and NFPA 70E, Electrical Safety in the Workplace.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current/active Professional Engineering license. Preference given to WA and/or KY licensure.
  • Proficient in Allen Bradley PLC’s
  • Excellent communication skills and demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence.
Work Location

Work will be performed and/or assigned from the Polestar office in Richland, WA. Business travel is expected. Assignments to locations nationwide may be requested.
