Job summary

GAS Global Services seeks a mid-level Instrument Designer to join our Houston team. You will produce and check instrumentation deliverables for industrial projects and take ownership of small scopes with minimal supervision.

You will develop SPI deliverables, read P&IDs, and reproduce instrument design docs in SI, including wiring, marshalling, power distribution, and loop drawings, while ensuring accuracy and standards compliance.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of instrument design experience in oil & gas, petrochemical, refining, or industrial process facilities.
• Proficiency in SmartPlant Instrumentation, including the Index and Wiring modules.
• Demonstrated ability to read P&IDs and interpret instrument wiring diagrams, marshalling wiring, power distribution, loop drawings, etc.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD for instrumentation drawings.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage revisions accurately.
• Clear written and verbal communication, ability to work independently and in a project team.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple deliverables to meet schedule.
• Experience with SmartPlant Instrumentation databases with reports or templates.
• Familiarity with ISA, NEC, API standards and hazardous area classifications.
• Experience with brownfield modification and revamp projects.
• Prior experience mentoring junior designers or drafters.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain instrumentation deliverables in SPI, including the Index and Wiring modules.
• Read and interpret P&IDs to identify instruments, control loops, and I/O requirements.
• Reproduce instrument design documents in SI (INtools), including wiring block diagrams, marshalling wiring, junction box wiring, power distribution, loop drawings, and I/O loading reports.
• Check reports and data for accuracy, consistency, and adherence to project standards.
• Work with engineers, electrical and controls designers, and other disciplines to resolve design questions.
• Plan, organize, and deliver small scopes of work independently, including tracking progress and communicating status.
