Job summary

Guardian Glass in Corsicana, TX is seeking an Instrument and Controls Technician to maintain automated float glass production lines, troubleshoot electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, and uphold safety and quality standards.

You will start up and shut down equipment, monitor process parameters, perform preventive maintenance, train junior operators, and participate in continuous improvement efforts while adhering to lockout/tagout policies.

Qualifications

  • Degree or higher in Electrical/Electronic/Controls discipline.
  • 2+ years of electrical/electronic/controls troubleshooting in manufacturing or military.
  • Experience reading electrical schematics/blueprints.
  • Experience using electrical test devices (ammeters, voltmeters, ohmmeters).
  • Experience with PLC systems, including ladder logic.
  • Computer skills in MS Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor automated float glass production lines (melting, forming, annealing, cutting, edging, washing, packaging).
  • Start up and shut down equipment; perform line changeovers and product grade changes.
  • Monitor process parameters and adjust controls to maintain specs and throughput.
  • Inspect glass for defects; notify quality/engineering as needed.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and electrical/ mechanical troubleshooting; coordinate repairs.
  • Execute reliability activities and report abnormal trends.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement (root cause analysis, Kaizen, SPC, OEE).
  • Maintain production/maintenance/quality records (shift logs, downtime).
  • Ensure safety and regulatory policies; use PPE; follow lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Train and mentor junior operators; participate in handovers.

Guardian Glass is looking for a motivated Instrument and Controls Technician with a passion for safety to join our team in Corsicana, TX! Instrument Technicians are responsible for performing highly diversified maintenance to production machines and plant facility's equipment, on mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic for both troubleshooting and repairs in support of efficiency and allowing our facility to create quality glass that meets our customers' needs.

Shift: 10-hour shifts, Monday through Friday. Holidays, weekends, and overtime as needed.

What You Will Do
  • Operate and monitor automated float glass production lines (glass melting, forming, annealing lehr, cutting, edging, washing, and packaging).
  • Start up and shut down equipment per procedures; perform line changeovers and product grade changes.
  • Monitor process parameters (temperatures, conveyor speeds, atmosphere, level controls) and adjust controls to maintain product specifications and stable throughput.
  • Inspect glass for visual/functional defects and take immediate corrective actions; segregate nonconforming product and notify quality/engineering.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance tasks and basic mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical troubleshooting; coordinate complex repairs with maintenance team.
  • Execute equipment reliability activities (daily checks, lubrication, filter changes, alignment checks) and report abnormal trends.
  • Follow and contribute to continuous improvement efforts (root cause analysis, Kaizen events, SPC, OEE improvement) to reduce downtime, scrap, and cycle time.
  • Maintain accurate production, maintenance, and quality records (shift logs, defect logs, downtime reasons, production counts).
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory policies; use PPE and follow lockout/tagout, hot work, and confined-space procedures as required.
  • Train and mentor junior operators; participate in shift handovers and cross-functional meetings.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

One or more of the following:

  • Associate/Technical degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Systems, Instrumentation, or Electronic Technology
  • A minimum of two or more years of Electrical/Electronic/Controls troubleshooting experience in a manufacturing or military environment
  • Experience reading and following electrical and maintenance schematics/blueprints
  • Experience utilizing electrical test devices such as Ammeters, Voltmeters, and Ohmmeters
  • Experience in PLC systems, including understanding PLC ladder logic
  • Experience in computer skills with MS Word and Excel
What Will Put You Ahead
  • Experience in Fanuc or Industrial Robotics experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience working within a Power Plant, Pulp and Paper, Converting, Palletizing, and/or Automation Equipment operations
  • Experience with Servos and Servo Controllers
  • Experience with PLC programming logic and troubleshooting equipment while online with the PLC
  • Experience with systems integration to include advanced PLC troubleshooting experience and understanding Arrays and Servo control within the PLC logic
  • Experience with HMI Programming
  • (5) or more years of manufacturing or industrial experience inspecting, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, installing, and maintaining electrical and Instrumentation equipment
