Job summary

Vistra Energy is seeking an I&C Technician (Bargaining Unit) to work with Emerson Ovation control systems, calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, and replace critical transmitters, switches, probes and other devices essential to safe plant operation.

This role supports the safe, reliable operation and maintenance of a Natural Gas Power Plant and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Granbury, Texas, with emphasis on adherence to safety procedures, incident prevention, and ongoing skills

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of I&C or electrical experience required.
  • Calibrate and maintain field instrumentation such as transmitters and valves.
  • Familiarity with plant processes and safety practices.
  • Proficient computer skills and MAXIMO usage.
  • POSS/MASS program eligibility required for consideration.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate and maintain plant instrumentation and control systems.
  • Calibrate, troubleshoot and repair critical plant transmitters and sensors.
  • Support start-up/shut-down activities and routine maintenance.
  • Work with others to perform preventative and corrective maintenance.
  • Enter work requests (WRs) and service requests (SRs) into CMMS (Maximo).

I&C Technician (Bargaining Unit)

Job Summary: I&C Technician (Bargaining Unit) is an experienced technician that can work in the Emerson Ovation control system and calibrate, troubleshoot, repair, and replace critical transmitters, switches, probes, and any other devices that are critical to the safe operation of the plant. Responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of a Natural Gas Power Plant and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).

Responsibilities
  • Perform work incorporating strict adherence to safety procedures and best practices and continually observe for safe working practices.
  • Regularly develop and present safety topics.
  • Develop an understanding of HPI tools through training opportunities and practice.
  • Actively participate in Pre/Post Job briefs.
  • Work with other technicians to perform routine and emergency maintenance and/or compliance activities on the plant instrumentation and control systems including weekends, holidays, and scheduled shifts.
  • Develop the technical expertise and skills to provide, with occasional assistance, the ability to effectively troubleshoot and maintain the plant control systems and communication networks (DCS, BESS controls, & PLCs).
  • Cover unit start-up and shut-down activities with assistance from other technicians.
  • Cover control operator shifts as necessary.
  • Calibrate, troubleshoot and maintain power plant instrumentation systems and equipment.
  • Learn to enter WRs and SRs into Maximo.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of O&M and capital projects.
  • Learn to communicate LOTO requests to operations.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with team members and other support groups and vendors.
  • Successfully deliver results by thorough and detailed completion of job responsibilities.
  • Takes pride in thorough and detailed completion of a job.
  • Communicate to the supervisor any unusual and out‑of‑the‑ordinary equipment condition or issues which may hinder normal operation or may cause budget‑impacting cost.
  • Be able to cover call‑out duties with minimal assistance.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned with initiative.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent with 2+ years of I&C or electrical experience required.
  • Provide technical expertise and skills to effectively troubleshoot electrical circuits.
  • Provide technical expertise and skills to perform calibrations and maintenance of field instrumentation including transmitters (level, pressure, flow, temperature, etc.), control valves, valve positioners, thermocouples, etc.
  • Develop knowledge and understanding of the power plant processes (material handling, water side equipment, air side equipment, emission controls, turbine/generator, etc.).
  • Demonstrate specific knowledge and skills to perform job assignments.
  • Demonstrate continual self‑improvement in job skills and knowledge.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of how job assignment impacts other systems/units and use this knowledge to maximize safety and minimize equipment problems.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and utilization of resources required to perform the job, such as drawings, instruction books, calibration data sheets, MAXIMO, etc.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • All applicants must be a successful candidate on the Plant Operator Selection System/Power Plant Operations and Maintenance (POSS / MASS) program in order to be considered a candidate for this position.
Preferred Experience
  • Properly conduct low, medium and high voltage switching, clearing and grounding activities for all plant auxiliary equipment.
  • Electrical skills for maintaining equipment including motors, breakers, bus work, and freeze protection.
  • Associate degree in Instrumentation and Electronics or associated field.
  • High School Diploma/GED with two (2) years related work experience.
