Job Description

The instrument and electrical technician performs a variety of skilled electrical, process instrumentation, gas supply, and communication functions in support of the plant and gas pipeline operations. Responsibilities include installing, maintaining, repairing, and modifying precision/process control instrumentation systems, AC and DC electrical systems (including low, medium, and high voltage distribution), plant and user interfaces, process monitoring and control, HVAC, and supervisory control and data acquisition systems. The role requires the use and care of hand and power tools, along with a solid understanding of basic process control theory.

Responsibilities

  • Calibrate, install, troubleshoot, and repair plant control equipment such as transmitters, transducers, analyzers, valve positioners, level indicators, solenoid valves, and performance monitoring systems.
  • Inspect and maintain regulators, including relief regulators, self-operating, pilot-operated, and control valves.
  • Perform repairs and replacements of parts like seats, springs, diaphragms, and adjust set-points as needed.
  • Install and maintain regulator and odorizing equipment at border and industrial stations, including auxiliary and control regulators.
  • Inspect and maintain low and medium voltage power distribution systems, motor control centers, switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, and relays.
  • Program, test, and troubleshoot programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
  • Maintain plant emissions monitoring systems and plant control systems such as boiler, turbine, and generator controls.
  • Handle preliminary work, including parts availability, inventory management, and Bill of Materials creation.
  • Collaborate with vendors, engineers, and other personnel, and may be tasked with designing and installing new electrical systems.
  • Maintain control system documentation, including diagrams and logic algorithms.
  • Maintain HVAC, lighting, communication systems, and uninterruptible power sources.
  • Perform gas leak surveys and identify underground facilities using specialized equipment and maps.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Journeyman electrical technician certification.
  • Associate's or technical degree, relevant certification, or equivalent experience (typically three years).
  • Proficiency with PC software, including spreadsheets, word processing, and databases.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to interpret technical documents.
  • Problem-solving skills, mathematical and analytical abilities, and the capacity to prioritize tasks.
  • Valid New York driver's license.
