Job description

Job Title: Instrument and Electrical Technician III Location: Carlsbad, NM Schedule: Monday – Friday Target Pay Rate: $73/hr

Overview

The Instrument and Electrical Technician III installs, maintains, tests, and repairs electrical and instrumentation systems supporting oil and gas production equipment. This role ensures systems meet performance, safety, and quality standards while providing technical leadership and troubleshooting support to operations, engineering, and project teams.

Responsibilities
  • Install and maintain electrical and instrumentation equipment in compliance with company rules, standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Test and repair electrical and instrumentation systems to ensure reliable equipment performance and product quality
  • Evaluate electrical systems and instruments to develop effective repair plans
  • Document and verify system issues and corrective actions
  • Plan, update, and oversee work activities with a strong emphasis on health, safety, and environmental compliance
  • Support collaboration across operations, engineering, and project teams
  • Review and provide input on control specifications and work practices
  • Ensure proper application of Permit to Work System (PTWS) requirements
  • Ensure quality and timely completion of maintenance work
  • Develop technical skills for self and team members
  • Attend and instruct technical meetings to communicate updates on specifications, codes, procedures, and technology
  • Maintain open communication on electrical and control issues, including safe work practices and training needs
  • Support work prioritization to maximize operational effectiveness
  • Provide advanced technical support to technicians for troubleshooting and maintenance
  • Generate Management of Change (MOC) requests and follow up with installation inspections in alignment with OIMS Element 3
  • Inspect new installations and recommend upgrades as needed
  • Act as a stand-in for the Instrument and Electrical Lead when required
Skills & Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Associate degree preferred (technical school coursework highly desirable)
  • Experience maintaining electrical systems and instrumentation in processing plants or offshore production facilities
  • Must be currently M anlift certified
Technical Skills
  • Familiarity with oil & gas operational regulations
  • Working knowledge of OIMS systems, manuals, and procedures
  • Meets all safety, administrative, and technical training requirements per company training roadmap
  • Strong computing skills
  • Preferred:
    • Large horsepower compression automation experience
    • Valve repair and troubleshooting experience
