Job summary

Luminant Power LLC in Texas seeks an experienced maintenance technician to support instrumentation, control, and electrical systems at the Hays Plant. Qualifications

• Additional experience with machinery repair and control systems preferred.
• Experience with transmitters, valve actuators/positioners, control systems a plus.
• Candidates must pass POSS/MASS exams as part of selection.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, calibrate, test, and maintain transmitters, switches, gauges, and sensors.
• Troubleshoot pneumatic, electronic, and digital instrumentation.
• Maintain and troubleshoot DCS, PLC, HMI, and associated control equipment.
• Test and maintain control valves, positioners, actuators, and sensors.
• Verify instrument loops, alarms, interlocks, permissives, and shutdowns.
• Maintain boiler, turbine, combustion, burner management, and plant auxiliary controls.
• Perform loop checks, functional tests, and instrument calibration.
• Review calibration records, wiring diagrams, and control documentation.
• Maintain electrical equipment: motors, MCCs, VFDs; identify hazards; minimize downtime.
• Coordinate with operations, mechanical, and engineering for outages and tests.

Job Summary

This position is responsible for performing operations functions, preventive and corrective maintenance as applicable to job function to ensure proper functioning of plant equipment will work under the direction of site management.

This position is responsible for the proper function and maintenance of equipment at a Gas Plant for the Gas fleet. Responsible for promoting safe, effective, and reliable operation.

Job Description

1. Instrumentation and Control Systems

• Inspect, calibrate, test, and maintain pressure, temperature, flow, and level transmitters, switches, gauges, and sensors.
• Troubleshoot and repair pneumatic, electronic, and digital instrumentation.
• Maintain and troubleshoot Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI), and associated control equipment.
• Test and maintain control valves, positioners, actuators, solenoids, and associated instrumentation.
• Verify instrument loops, control logic, alarms, interlocks, permissive, and shutdown systems.
• Maintain and troubleshoot boiler controls, turbine controls, combustion controls, burner management systems, and plant auxiliary systems as applicable.
• Perform loop checks, functional tests, signal verification, and instrument calibration using appropriate test equipment.
• Review and update instrument calibration records, loop drawings, wiring diagrams, and control documentation.

2. Electrical Maintenance

• Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electric motors, motor control centers (MCCs), motor starters, and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
• Maintain and troubleshoot low- and medium-voltage electrical equipment within assigned qualifications.
• Inspect electrical panels, breakers, disconnect switches, relays, transformers, and associated distribution equipment.
• Perform electrical testing, including insulation resistance, continuity, voltage, current, and grounding checks as authorized.
• Troubleshoot electrical control circuits, power supplies, wiring, and equipment faults.
• Assist with generator auxiliary systems, excitation systems, protective relays, and switchgear maintenance as assigned.
• Identify electrical hazards, equipment deterioration, and potential failures, and recommend corrective actions.

3. Preventive and Corrective Maintenance

• Execute preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance work orders.
• Diagnose equipment failures and determine root causes of recurring instrumentation, control, and electrical problems.
• Support equipment startup, shutdown, commissioning, and post-maintenance testing.
• Assist with planned plant outages, inspections, overhauls, and emergency maintenance activities.
• Coordinate with operations, mechanical maintenance, and engineering personnel to minimize equipment downtime.
• Verify equipment functionality and return equipment to service following approved procedures.

Education, Experience, & Skill Requirements

• High School education or GED equivalent required
• One (1) year as I&C or two (2) years related work experience required
• Experience gained through college degree programs and/or certifications is applicable to above skills.
• Must possess basic math skills, good verbal communications skills, and be proficient with the use of power and precision tools.
• Must have knowledge of Safety and Environment rules as they relate to electrical maintenance
• Must provide positive influence to the maintenance, operations, and management team.
• Working knowledge of CMMS. Familiarity with Maximo preferred.
• Additional experience with machinery repair and control systems preferred.
• Experience working on transmitters, valve actuators/positioners, control systems a plus
