The basics of this position:


The Instructor, Truck Driver provides a variety of teaching activities that prepare students for the class A-commercial driver's license (CDL) examination and an entry-level position in the trucking industry, in compliance with DOT-FMCSA Entry Level Driver Training requirements.


What you'll do:



  • * Teach classroom portions of the Truck Driver Training Program including, but not limited to: Basic truck operations, defensive driving practices, introduction to vehicle inspections, trip planning, managing life on the road, and explanation of backing maneuvers, coupling, and uncoupling, among other relevant topics.
    * Teach hands-on portion of the Truck Driver Training Program including: driving simulator training modules; demonstrate and teach skills maneuvers on the driving range (backing, shifting, etc.); and provide driving demonstrations, and maintain safe conditions while coaching student drivers during behind-the-wheel training in city and highway driving situations.
    * Evaluate and grade students throughout the program, in accordance with established guidelines. Maintain accurate student files.
    * Monitor the condition of the Truck Driver Training Program equipment and report any issues to management.
    * Maintain relationships with employers in the trucking industry and assist with the recruitment of students.
    * Participates in curriculum development and revisions.
    * Ability to provide maintenance on equipment in emergency situations.
    * Maintain current knowledge, skill, and certifications in field of specialization.
    * Other duties as assigned.


Education, experience, and other requirements:


* Associate degree or equivalent, and three (3) years of experience in the trucking industry (as over-the-road driver and driver training).
o The equivalent to an associate degree is High School/GED, plus an additional two years of experience.
* Valid Class A-Commercial Driver License (CDL) clear of air brake restrictions, clear driving record, and current DOT medical card. Must pass DOT drug test. Able to stand for long periods and work outdoors.
