Job summary

The Jewish Community Center of Greater KC is hiring a part-time preschool sports instructor to lead classes for children aged 3-5. You will teach foundational skills in baseball, football, soccer and basketball, and ensure safe, engaging learning experiences within the preschool setting.

Responsibilities include moving students between spaces, managing behavior with positive approaches, and coordinating with the Program Manager and staff to communicate progress and expectations.

Qualifications

• Experience working with preschoolers, ages 3–5.
• Knowledge of basic rules for major preschool sports.
• Understanding of developmentally appropriate PE activities.
• Coaching or playing experience preferred.
• Formal PE or education-related studies preferred.
• Strong ability to engage groups of preschoolers.
• Effective communication with families and staff.

Description

The J’s preschool sports classes are designed to inspire and instruct children ages 3-5. Our goals are to teach the fundamentals of baseball, football, soccer, basketball, and basic physical education activities in ways that increase students’ knowledge and foster their engagement in healthy and recreational activities.

Essential Functions

• Teaches preschool baseball, football, soccer, and basketball classes
• Escorts students between the preschool and the Fitness Center for his/her own classes and for classes taught by other Sports + Recreation staff members (Tennis, Taekwondo)
• Resolves child behavioral issues using positive behavior management techniques, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment while communicating concerns and progress with families and staff as needed
• Serves as a liaison between the Program Manager and Childhood Development Center staff by facilitating communication, coordinating student needs, and providing updates on participant progress, behavior, and program expectations

Schedule

Preschool classes occur Monday–Friday mid‑day (12:00pm‑4:00pm) year‑round.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children, especially ages 3‑5
• Basic knowledge of the rules of baseball, football, soccer, and basketball
• Basic knowledge of Physical Education activities that are developmentally appropriate for preschool students
• Experience as a coach/player preferred
• Formal education in Physical Education, Education, or related field preferred
• Able to effectively communicate with groups of preschool students
• Able to maintain a positive, constructive class environment

Physical Requirements

• Able to move freely throughout large complex that includes stairs
• Able to stand for periods of up to four hours
• Able to lift and move equipment up to 50 pounds
