Job Title: Instructor Pool - English as a Second Language

Department Information
Lane’s ESL Department is seeking candidates for the part-time pool for the 2024-25 academic year to provide quality instruction and service to Lane’s international and resident ESL student population.

  • Instructors must have a passion for what they teach and have teaching styles that support student success.
  • This is an application pool posting for 2024-2025. The assigned location for this position may be sites in Eugene, Cottage Grove or Junction City, Oregon.

Position Type: Contracted Part-Time Faculty

Anticipated Start Date: March 31, 2025 or Upon Hire

Salary/Wage: Hourly

  • The Part-time Faculty benefits package includes a generous contribution toward medical, dental, and vision insurance, life insurance, long-term disability, and paid sick leave.

Working Schedule:
Courses as assigned by the Division Dean based on need, enrollment, and availability of contracted and/or more senior part-time faculty.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in TESOL, TESL, TEFL, Applied Linguistics, Language Teaching Studies, or English language acquisition.
  • OR Master’s degree in Education, Linguistics, or Adult Education and Training from an accredited college or university AND Graduate coursework (8+ credits) or a rigorous (180+ hours) university-affiliated, Certificate/Diploma in Teaching English as a Second Language.

Required Experience:

Two (2) years of experience teaching English to non-native speakers in a classroom environment at the postsecondary level is required.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Successful applicants are required to complete a criminal background check.
  • Must work and reside in the state of Oregon at the time their work is being performed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience meeting the needs of students with goals ranging from basic life-skill building to academic preparation.
  • Experience with VESL/Contextualized/IET English language instruction.
  • Experience in Literacy instruction for English Language Learners.

Position Purpose:

To provide high quality instruction in listening, speaking, reading, writing, college and career readiness, digital literacy, and study skills at a variety of levels to non-native English speakers (resident and international students) from diverse backgrounds and levels ranging from beginning to advanced English language learners.

Essential Functions:

  • Exhibit compliance with College policies and procedures.
  • Maintain and post office hours in alignment with College expectations.
  • Provide high-quality classroom instruction.
  • Teach and develop all class syllabi and course materials.
  • Incorporate college values into the curriculum.
  • Monitor student progress and provide reasonable coaching and assistance to struggling students.
  • Ensure that all materials meet the guidelines of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.

Supervision Statement:

Reports to the Division Dean overseeing the ESL Department.

Physical Demands/Working Environment:

This position works indoors and is exposed to usual office working conditions.

  • Ability to use assessment results to design and adjust instruction to meet learners’ needs.
  • Work with culturally and socioeconomically diverse students in group settings.
  • Integrate technology into teaching and learning.
