Salary is $75,000–$85,000 with a full benefits package and consistent schedule. This full-time, year-round teaching role runs Monday through Thursday, 6:30 AM–4:45 PM and reports to the Plumbing Technician Program Department Head.

Qualifications

  • Must have three (3) years of related practical work experience in plumbing/subject area taught.
  • Must hold a valid Journey Level Plumber (01) certificate through WA State L&I.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to operate a computer.
  • Must communicate effectively with industry.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to provide insurance proof when driving for Perry Tech.

Responsibilities

  • Teach in hands-on lecture and lab environments.
  • Maintain compliance with state and national accrediting agencies.
  • Stay current in plumbing industry and Perry Tech standards.
  • Grade, assess and document student progress and attendance.
  • Provide student advising per Perry Tech policy.
  • Attend department and faculty meetings and participate in committees.

PLUMBING TECHNICIAN PROGRAM

Perry Technical Institute is seeking a driven plumbing technician to bring their hands-on industry expertise into the classroom to prepare students for life-long careers in their industry. No prior teaching experience is required; curriculum and instructional support and mentorship will be provided. This is a rewarding and unique position that allows experienced professionals to support the future of skilled plumbers. This is a full-time, year-round teaching appointment in the Plumbing Technician program. Working hours are Monday through Thursday, 6:30 AM - 4:45 PM. This position will report to the Plumbing Technician Program Department Head.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Duties are performed in a classroom and lab environment. Working conditions will align with the career and technical education field as follows: Career and technical education teachers, especially those in postsecondary schools, teach courses and develop lesson plans. They will normally work in a building and perform tasks such as word processing, telephone calls, emails, and lecturing. Career and technical educators will also spend time supervising students in a simulated lab environment.

This is an exempt, full-time, regular position.

SALARY RANGE: $75,000 - $85,000 Per Year

The job posting includes the expected hiring wage range while the full wage scale for this position can be calculated by starting with the hiring range and increasing the wage three percent annually over the duration of employment. Increase in wages depends on approval of an annual budget and is not guaranteed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must have three (3) years of related practical work experience in the subject area(s) taught, as required by all faculty teaching technical and occupationally related courses in non-degree program.
  • Must hold a valid Journey Level Plumber (01) certificate through the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to operate a computer.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and to interface with industry.
  • Will on occasion be required to drive on behalf of Perry Technical Institute. Employee must possess a working vehicle, hold a valid driver’s license, have an acceptable driving record, and produce proof of insurance.
  • Must be willing to consent to a drug test.
  • Must be able to read, speak, and effectively communicate in English.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Certificate of completion from an accredited career school in the subject area(s) taught or associate degree.
  • A valid plumbing license for Washington State, offering the ability to service as a licensee to support Perry Technical Institute's plumbing-related service needs.
  • Previous teaching experience.
  • Excellent lecture skills.
  • Knowledge and skill in industry.
  • Ability to integrate industry scenarios and role playing into instruction.
  • Ability to contribute to curriculum development and skilled at bringing the business community to the classroom.
  • Experience with Learning Resource Systems (LRS).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Teach in a hands-on lecture and lab environment.
  • Participate in course and program development.
  • Maintain compliance with state and national accrediting agencies.
  • Remain current in industry.
  • Interact with other departments in pursuing the institution’s goals and objectives, including Enrollment Services and Career Services.
  • Complete and maintain an ongoing professional growth plan.
  • Attend and complete new instructor orientation and training.
  • Grade, assess and document student progress and attendance using Perry Tech's LRS.
  • Provide student advising on progress as per Perry Tech policy.
  • Attend routine department meetings.
  • Attend routine faculty meetings.
  • Participate in various Perry Tech committees as assigned (safety, strategic planning, etc.).
  • Conduct program tours.
  • Attend and participate in Perry Tech "Open House" events.
  • Attend and complete various yearly Perry Tech issued trainings.
  • Have good attendance and the ability to work well with others.
  • Other duties as assigned.
