Job summary

Project Enhancement Corporation (PEC) seeks a qualified Range Safety Officer/Instructor to support DOE and contractor personnel training. The role involves delivering firearms safety, tactical training, and exercise control across CONUS locations, with periodic long hours and travel required.

The ideal candidate will hold at least a high school diploma (bachelor’s preferred), possess strong oral and written communication skills, and be capable of obtaining a DOE L clearance.

Qualifications

• Must meet DOE security clearance and building access requirements.

Responsibilities

• Serve as adjunct member of OST training staff for training DOE and contractor personnel.
• Provide training support; workload 100–1000 hours per year.
• Serve as Range Safety Officer or Assistant Instructor during Federal Agent weapons qualifications and live fire exercises.
• Serve as opposing force during tactical training events.
• Serve as exercise controller during tactical training events.
• Complete mandatory training (Basic Instructor Training, Firearms Instructor Course, Controller Course).
• Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication; multi-task and adapt to customer needs.

Project Enhancement Corporation (PEC), headquartered in Germantown, MD, is a technical services business focused on delivering project management and specialized support in the areas of nuclear safety, worker safety and health, emergency management, incident response, quality assurance, environment, as well as materials and facilities disposition within the DOE/NNSA and commercial power industry.

Responsibilities

• Serve as an adjunct member of the OST training staff, with responsibility for training DOE and contractor personnel.
• Provide training support as needed. Typical work load is 100-1000 hours per year.
• Serve as Range Safety Officer or Assistant Instructor during Federal Agent weapons qualifications and live fire exercises.
• Serve as opposing force (OPFOR) during tactical training events.
• Serve as exercise controller during tactical training events.
• Complete mandatory training (Basic Instructor Training, Firearms Instructor Course, Controller Course).
• Perform role player or road guard duties as assigned. Required Qualifications:
• High School Diploma (bachelor’s degree preferred) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must have at a minimum a mastery of 4 of the listed skills: Firearms (handgun and carbine), Tractor/Trailer operations (commercial certification), small unit infantry tactics, armed convoy operations, Law Enforcement experience, Law Enforcement Control Tactics/Combatives, conducting fitness training and fitness testing, Emergency Vehicle Operations, Off-Road Driving.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
• Willingness to work directly with customers in an environment that changes rapidly and requires occasional long hours.
• Maintain a level of physical fitness and agility sufficient to perform requisite physical tasks and functions.
• Ability to travel to locations throughout the CONUS.
• Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite including advanced word processing using Microsoft Word, as well as Excel, Power Point, and Outlook.
• Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work independently.
• Must be able to wear designated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to include passing FIT test with Avon C50 Protective Mask.
• Ability to meet the requirements for a DOE security clearance and Building Access badge. Access will require the qualified candidate be a U.S. citizen with DOE L clearance. The candidate’s written consent to conduct a background check for the purposes of maintaining a security clearance will be required as a condition of employment.
• A pre-employment test for the absence of any illegal substances will be required. Ongoing reviews and tests for the absence of illegal substances may also be conducted for continued access to client sites. The candidate’s written consent to conduct such tests will be required as a condition of employment.
• Desired or Preferred Qualifications:
• 3-5 years prior military or law enforcement experience. Special operations/SWAT preferred.
• Knowledge of DOE sites and types of operation.
• Self-directed, and able to define and achieve goals with little supervision.
• Physical Demands:
• Work is normally performed in an office, workshop, or classroom setting.
• Work is also performed outdoors on a range or in support of a training exercise.
• Worker may be exposed to dust, fumes, loud noises, and the environment.
• Work involves standing, walking, running, and kneeling for sustained periods.
• May involve occasional heavy lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling.
