Job Summary

The Team & Individual Sports Activity Area in the Physical Activities Course (PAC) program, part of the School of Exercise, Sports and Health Science at Oregon State University, invites applications for one or more fixed-term, non-tenure track Instructor (PAC) positions to teach courses on a term-by-term basis for the 2024-2025 academic year. Applications are reviewed as needed throughout the year, primarily for part-time roles. Some appointments may be renewed or transitioned to a permanent instructional position at the discretion of the program Director.

The PAC Program aims to equip students with knowledge and experience for active lifestyles, offering quality instruction in safe facilities and fostering a positive learning environment. Courses may include aquatics, dance, fitness, martial arts, outdoor recreation, resistance training, sports, and games. For more info, visit https://health.oregonstate.edu/pac.

Key Responsibilities
  • 96% Teaching: Deliver courses in Team & Individual Sports, plan engaging lessons, employ diverse instructional strategies, develop assessments, and maintain records. Respond to safety concerns and adapt instruction to student needs.
  • 2% Professional Growth: Maintain current knowledge, participate in professional development, and contribute to program planning.
  • 2% Support: Be accessible for advising, prepare course materials, maintain confidentiality, and participate in meetings.
Qualifications

Mandatory for martial arts candidates:

  • Bachelor’s degree in any field
  • Current CPR, AED, First Aid, and Concussion training
  • Commitment to educational equity and diversity

Additional discipline-specific qualifications:

  • Involvement in sport programming or certification
  • At least 2 years of coaching or teaching experience
  • Ability to demonstrate skills physically

Final candidates must pass a sexual misconduct reference check.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s in Exercise Science or related; Master’s preferred
  • 5+ years of coaching/instructing sports
  • Experience in higher education teaching and curriculum development
Work Conditions

Leading physical activity classes for 50-110 minutes, 1-3 times weekly.

Compensation

Salary range: $30,000 - $36,667, commensurate with experience.
