Gateway Community & Technical College, Boone Campus, is seeking an Instructor - Line Worker to train and develop future line workers in essential skills and safety protocols on electrical power lines. You will deliver instructional materials, run hands-on sessions, and assess student performance in a high‑risk environment.

Ideal candidates have extensive line work experience, strong communication abilities, and a passion for safety.

Qualifications

  • 5 years of relevant experience in line work or instruction.
  • Knowledge of electrical power line safety requirements.
  • Detail‑oriented, self‑motivated, able to work independently in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Forms, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Word).

Job Summary

Responsible for training and developing potential line workers in the technical skills and safety protocols required for working on electrical power lines. Deliver instructional materials, conduct hands-on training sessions, evaluate students’ performance, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations. This role requires extensive experience as a line worker, strong communication skills, and the ability to mentor and guide students in a high-risk environment. Ideal candidates should be passionate about safety and committed to preparing the next generation of line workers—opportunities to work as lab tech for the evening program for extra pay.

Applicants selected for an interview will be required to give a short teaching demonstration (approximately 15 minutes) on a topic to be determined before the interview.

10-month faculty contracts span the academic year, typically from August to May, with no course assignments during June and July. Although the contract covers 10 months, the salary is spread over 12 months, ensuring a consistent monthly salary.

Benefits are provided year-round. Renewal of the contract depends on factors such as student enrollment and available funding.

Faculty may be assigned courses that include both traditional college students and high school students earning dual credit. This dynamic mix offers a unique opportunity to engage learners at different stages of their academic journey.

Job Duties:
  • Provide a minimum of 15 credit hours of instruction in person and/or online

  • Maintenance and care of classrooms and training materials will also be expected.
  • Keep abreast of changes in the respective field and help keep the program updated.
  • Teach at various levels to help support the College.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • 5 years of relevant experience
  • Understanding and experience with electrical power line safety requirements.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, able to work independently and adapt seamlessly to fast-paced, dynamic environments.
  • Skilled in engaging and supporting students from different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities effectively and meet tight deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Forms, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Word).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree or equivalent
  • Proficiency with Learning Management Systems (such as Blackboard, Canvas, etc.)
  • Significant teaching experience, particularly at the college level
  • Strong dedication to enhancing student learning and achievement
  • Experience working with and understanding students from diverse backgrounds
  • Experience in academic advising and supporting student success
  • Previous experience in a community college setting
