Job summary

Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) is Wisconsin's largest technical college, offering 170+ programs and opportunities to advance in 1–2 years. We seek dedicated part-time faculty to teach in the Manufacturing, Construction, and Trades Pathway, with flexible course loads and in-person instruction in Wisconsin.

Starting hourly wage is $40 per course hour of teaching, with supplemental pay for time per instruction hour (approx. $70/hour).

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Industrial Maintenance or related field
  • Apprenticeship completion in Industrial Maintenance or related field
  • Technical Diploma or Military diploma with five years experience
  • Minimum three years of full-time or equivalent experience in Industrial Maintenance or related Machinery or Automation area
  • Two years of work experience within the last five years
  • Two years of teaching Industrial Maintenance coursework at the post-secondary level within the last five years
  • One year of teaching experience is equivalent to two semesters full-time or four semesters part-time
  • Current Journey level status in Industrial Maintenance or Automation (e.g., ASE Master, Fluid Power Specialist)
  • Must complete Amatrol instructor training in Fluid Power Basics/Advanced and Mechanical Drive Systems within five years of hire

  • Attend departmental and institutional meetings.
  • Promote the education/training program, recruit and retain students, and market MATC.
  • Support student organizations and activities.
  • Develop relationships with business and industry.
  • Complete program evaluation and follow-up.
  • Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in the field.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching‑related activities.
  • Manage the classroom/laboratory.

Qualifications

Only those who meet all of the base minimum requirements listed below will be considered.

Must have at least ONE of the following:

  • Associate degree in Industrial Maintenance or a related field such as Industrial Electrician, Fluid Power Technology Technician, Engineering, Automation Technician, or Automation Engineering.
  • Completed an apprenticeship completion in Industrial Maintenance, Machine Repair, Millwright, Machine Tool, or a related Automation or Maintenance field.
  • Technical Diploma or Military (A school) diploma with five years (10,000 hours) experience in areas listed above.

Occupational Experience Minimum Requirements: in addition to the above minimums

Must have a minimum of three years of full‑time or equivalent (6,000 hours) experience in Industrial Maintenance or in a related Machinery or Automation area. In addition, one of the following must be met:

  • Two years of work experience within the last five years.
  • Two years of teaching Industrial Maintenance coursework at the post‑secondary level within the last five years.

One year of teaching experience is equivalent to two semesters full‑time or four semesters part‑time.

Industry or vendor certification: in addition to the above minimums

  • Possess a current Journey level status in Industrial Maintenance or Automation in a related area such as Industrial Maintenance Engineer, Industrial Maintenance Technician, or Machinery Technician, ASE Master, or Fluid Power Specialist.
  • Must complete required instructor training from Amatrol within five (5) years of hire in Fluid Power Basics, Fluid Power Advanced, and Mechanical Drive Systems.   • Online Information Management Systems – Experience with Self‑Service or other online information management systems used for student advising, student programs, grading, class schedules and rosters.
  • Blackboard Ultra – Experience with Blackboard or other web‑based course‑management systems.
  • Technology‑based Instruction – Experience with technology‑based instructional delivery systems including SMART symposium, interactive touch‑screen monitors, LCD projectors, DVD players and/or other classroom technology.
  • Emerging Technologies – Experience with emerging technologies (e.g., social networking applications).
Supplemental Information

Start Date: This position supports the Manufacturing, Construction, and Trades Pathway and is available to start in the Fall Semester.

Hours/Location: This position is up to a .5 FTE; the number of hours worked per week will vary. Course load, location of teaching, and hours worked are based on enrollment and departmental need.

Modality: IN PERSON. Employees will conduct all work hours in the State of Wisconsin, performing work outside the state is strictly prohibited.

Salary: Beginning in the fall of 2024 the starting hourly wage for all part‑time faculty is $40 per course hour of teaching. Part‑time faculty are also compensated for an additional 45 minutes of time for each hour of instruction, which is equivalent to $70 per hour. This starting hourly wage of $40 an hour is non‑negotiable unless market conditions dictate otherwise.
