Job summary

Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) seeks a part-time electrical instructor to deliver classroom and laboratory instruction for the Manufacturing, Construction, and Transportation Pathway. The role emphasizes teaching excellence, curriculum development and ongoing assessment, with in-person sessions in Wisconsin and a January 2027 start date.

The candidate will manage labs, coordinate with advisory committees and industry partners, and promote MATC's programs while supporting student success

Qualifications

• Apprenticeship certificate or Journeyman license in Electrical trade.
• Minimum five years (10,000 hours) in electrical trade as apprentice or journey-level electrician.
• Two years of recent teaching Electricity course work at post-secondary level within last five years.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

Qualifications

Educational Minimum Requirements

• Apprenticeship certificate from Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development Bureau of Apprenticeship or the U.S. Apprenticeship (www.apprenticeship.gov) -OR-
• Four years (8,000 hours) of apprenticeship training and proof of passing Journeyman licensing exam in the Electrical trade.

Occupational Experience Minimum Requirements

• Must have a minimum of five years (10,000 hours) of full-time or equivalent experience in the electrical trade as an apprentice or journey level electrician in construction and/or industrial maintenance or a combination of both. Up to two years of occupational experience in commercial or industrial electrical system design will apply toward occupational experience.

In addition, one of the following must be met:

• At least two years of work experience must have occurred within the last five (5) years -OR-
• Two (2) years of teaching Electricity course work at the post-secondary level within the last five years.

Supplemental Information

Start Date

This position supports the Manufacturing, Construction, and Transportation Pathway and is available to start in January 2027 (Spring Semester).

Hours

This position is a .5 FTE the number of hours worked per week will vary based on course load. Work is conducted during scheduled course hours, Monday - Friday. Modality is in-person. Employees will conduct all work hours in the State of Wisconsin; performing work outside the state is strictly prohibited.

Salary: Beginning in the fall of 2024 the starting hourly wage for all part-time faculty is $40 per course hour of teaching. Part-time faculty are also compensated for an additional 45 minutes of time for each hour of instruction to cover office hours and prep time which is equivalent to $70 per hour. This starting hourly wage of $40 an hour is non-negotiable unless market conditions dictate otherwise.
