Responsibilities

Job Description

CLASS TITLE: INSTRUCTOR III

This is a full-time position, year-round 47 weeks, 22 - 30 hours per week. Staff time is split between data assessment, college and career navigation, public outreach, and GED preparation. Data assessment includes: enrolling students, administering tests, and documenting student progress. College and career navigation involves: providing career counseling, assisting with entrance into college, instructing students on employability skills, and implementing mitigation strategies to improve student success. This specialized instructor collaborates with community partners to recruit students and refers to agencies providing wrap-around services. GED preparation includes instruction in Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, and Mathematics in our learning centers and county detention centers. This position requires travel within the Heartland counties (Breckinridge, Grayson, Hardin, Hart, and LaRue) and work at least 2 evenings per month. Adult education instructors must have a minimum bachelor degree and pass the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE 13 /14 A) earning a NRS Level 6 in Reading and Mathematics.

BASIC FUNCTION:

Assist in the implementation of education programs by providing comprehensive assessments, evaluations and instruction to meet the needs of parents and children including home visitation and instruction; provide leadership and assistance to support functions with a minimum of supervision.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

The levels of instructor are distinguished by independence of action and degree of judgment exercised. The Instructor III provides leadership as well as assisting in program design. The Instructor I receives closer supervision while Instructor II provides assistance to others and serves as a resource.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination equivalent to: bachelor’s degree and three years successful teaching experience at the level of an Instructor I.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIRMENTS:

Education levels increase as required by the assignment and are recognized accordingly on the salary schedule.
