Job summary

Job Summary

The Accounting Department in the Lutgert College of Business (LCOB)at Florida Gulf Coast University seeks applicants for an Accounting Instructor I position to join our dynamic faculty. In this role,you will teach both undergraduate and graduate-level courses (asapplicable), with a standard teaching load of four courses persemester and potential opportunities for summer teaching. As an Accounting Instructor I, you will engage in course and curriculumdevelopment, participate in professional development activitiesthat align with the Instructional Practitioner classification underLCOB faculty guidelines, contribute to university, college,department, and community service efforts and, perform other dutiesas assigned.

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:
  • Teaches undergraduate courses in Accounting and other assigned courses as outlined in the annual assignment.
  • Prepare and deliver course content, including syllabi,lectures, instructional materials, assessments, and timely evaluation of student performance.
  • Maintain scheduled office hours and ensure timely, professional communication with students, colleagues, staff, and administrators.
  • Participate in departmental, college, and university meetings, as well as faculty evaluations, assessments, and curriculum development/revision efforts.
  • Utilize the university's learning management system and other required campus-wide technologies to support teaching and related responsibilities.
  • Complete all mandatory university trainings and comply with all institutional policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Engage in ongoing self-assessment and professional development to maintain effective instructional practices and remain current in the field.
  • Contribute to service at the departmental, institutional, community, and professional levels in alignment with the University's mission.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications
  • Masters or terminal degree from an AACSB accredited business school in Accounting or an MBA with a focus (18 graduate hours) in accounting with significant industry experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior teaching experience in an AACSB accredited institution.
  • Relevant Tax and/or IRS experience.
  • CPA or similar licensure.

  • Knowledge of major concepts, assumptions, debates, processes ofinquiry, and ways of knowing that are central to thediscipline(s).
  • Understands how to use digital and interactive technologies toefficiently and effectively achieve specific learning goals.
  • Knowledge of critical thinking processes and understanding howto help learners develop high-level questioning skills.
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of inquiry-based instructionalmodels and strategies.
  • Knowledge and ability to use technology in various teachingmodalities (e.g., Face-to-face, synchronous online, or asynchronousonline).
  • Ability to collaborate with stakeholders both within andoutside the University in developing and delivering instruction, resulting in improved student learning.
  • Proven ability to think strategically and approach challengeswith creativity.
  • Demonstrated track record of reliability, meeting goals, andholding oneself accountable.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience working effectivelyacross teams.
