We have an opening for a Non-Renewable Term Instructor (English) in the Humanities and Fine Arts Division for a one-year appointment at our Chattanooga campus!

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Department Head and/or Lead Faculty, the Non-Renewable Term Instructor will develop and teach courses in English Composition, including creating course materials, lessons, assignments, and assessments. The instructor will apply current instructional methodologies and best practices to support student learning and engagement while fostering a positive learning environment. Additional responsibilities include participating in scheduled college, divisional, professional development, and in-service activities as needed.

Appointment Term: This is a one-academic-year appointment and is not eligible for renewal.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Holistic Student Support
  • Ensure that services and activities promote accessibility to empower all students to learn.
  • Respect rights of students and access to educational opportunities.
  • Work to retain students.
  • Provide out-of-class assistance to students.
  • Support student activities.
Organizational Culture
  • Provide support in the Humanities and Fine Arts Division that aligns with the College's values.
  • Embrace and promote the College's goals and support the Humanities and Fine Arts Division's efforts to utilize best practices related to the student experience.
Teaching Excellence and Program Innovation
  • Structure student experiences to ensure fairness, accessibility, and relevance in academic, student life, and co-curricular activities.
  • Teach assigned courses.
  • Facilitate the classroom instructional process.
  • Evaluate students, monitor progress, and assign final grades in the campus Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Maintain attendance and grade records.
  • Maintain required classroom and office hours.
  • Develop supplemental instructional materials.
  • Use current technology in preparation, creation, and delivery of instruction.
  • Maintain updated course syllabi.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

The successful applicant will possess evidence of quality composition instruction and student support.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree in English, Rhetoric and/or Composition, or related degree
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a documented record of community college teaching experience, and experience in hybrid instruction, dual enrollment, and accelerated term schedules.

Salary Range: $41,763 - $51,154
