JOB SUMMARY :

The Instructor of Music position is a versatile, full-time teachingposition with responsibilities of 12 credit hours each semester. Responsibilitiesmay include any of the following: Teach weekly applied brassprivate lessons to music majors/minors in the candidate’sprimary/secondary brass areas and oversee adjunct instruction wherenecessary.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

General Education Courses:

Plan weekly lessons based onlearning outcomes for all courses. Implement weekly lesson plansusing a variety of research based instructional strategies andstudent engagement techniques. Evaluate student learning throughinformal and formal assessment practices. Provide ongoing feedbackto students through grading of tasks and assessments and respondingto students via email in a timely manner. Facilitate collaborativelearning opportunities for all students in the course. Adaptlearning materials each semester to address student needs andinterest. Collaborate with colleagues; specifically, those teachingthe same course.

Conducting Instrumental Ensemble(s):

Select repertoire foreach academic year for various performances, both on and offcampus. Prepare and direct weekly rehearsals, including sectionalsand whole group instruction. Evaluate student learning throughinformal and formal assessment practices effective in ensemblerehearsals. Assist in recruiting and auditioning student musiciansfor instrumental ensembles.

• Attend required trainings and/or meetings related to teachingand learning or administrative responsibilities.
• Be available for students during office hours equal to 8 hoursper week.
• Perform other tasks related to teaching in the musicdepartment.
• Actively recruit and retain high-quality student musicians tomaintain a robust brass studio and support the needs of theinstrumental ensembles.
• Coordinate student recital performances and collaborate withdepartmental accompanists; participate musically in universityceremonial events as required.
• Participate in departmental meetings, end-of-semester studentjuries, faculty committees, and other service activities asassigned by the Department Chair.

Essential Duties Summary

1) Teach MUSI 1306: Music Appreciation and/or MUSI 1315:Fine Arts in Daily Living.

The instructor reports to the Chair of the music department andDean of the College of Liberal Arts and Behavioral Sciences and isresponsible for supporting and advancing the mission and goals ofthe university, college, and department in all academic, scholarlyand student support activities.

2) Applied Studio: Prepare for weekly brass appliedinstruction for all music majors and minors within thestudio.

3) Provide ongoing feedback to students through gradingrubrics and responding to students via email in a timelymanner.

4) Prepare and rehearse repertoire for weekly group sessionswith students in the studio or instrument area

$50,500.00-$66,912.00

Education

Required:

• A Master’s degree in music education, instrumental conducting,or performance.
• Instrumental conducting and pedagogical expertise.

Preferred:

• A Doctorate degree in music education with an emphasis ininstrumental conducting preferred.

Knowledge of:

• Microsoft Office Professional or similar applications (i.e.,Outlook, Word, Adobe Acrobat, Canvas, etc.)

• Online platforms utilized to support teaching of specializedcontent.
