Job summary

Management & Training Corporation (MTC) at the Gadsden Correctional Facility in Quincy, FL seeks a vocational instructor to deliver inmates with certified curricula and provide basic direction in line with ACA, MTC, and FDOC directives. A bachelor’s degree or equivalent plus three years’ experience and teaching certification are required.

Reports to the senior instructor and focuses on delivering competency-based instruction, developing tests, and adapting materials to help offenders reach

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in the vocation certified to teach, or high school diploma with 3 years’ experience and valid teaching certification issued by Florida required.
• Valid Florida driver’s license with acceptable driving record unless waived.
• Florida Education certification for teaching in the vocation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Deliver individualized competency-based instruction through classroom and laboratory management to inmates.
• Develop performance objectives and tests in accordance with program content.
• Review and adapt instructional materials to help inmates reach mastery of competencies.
• Plan activities to initiate a budget request to ensure equipment, supplies, and materials are available.
• Monitor motivation, discipline, and learning difficulties to bring about positive changes.
• Maintain safety practices and accountability of inmates and property.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Position Summary

Reports to the senior instructor. Responsible for providing vocational instruction to inmates in accordance with approved curricula. Provides inmates with basic direction in compliance with American Correctional Association (ACA) standards, Management & Training Corporation (MTC), and Florida Department of Corrections (FDOC) directives.

Essential Functions

• Deliver individualized competency-based instruction through classroom and laboratory management in the occupation program areas taught to inmates


• Develop performance objectives and criterion-referenced tests in accordance with established program content, incorporate written and skill assessments.


• Review, select and adapt instructional materials to help individuals reach mastery of the competencies required for entry, advancement, and upgrading occupations.


• Plan activities to efficiently initiate budget request to assure that all equipment, supplies, and materials are available to support a progressive training schedule.


• Monitor motivation, discipline, and learning difficulties to bring about positive changes in the behavior of offenders.


• Execute all applicable forms to adhere to facility procedures.


• Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed.


• Maintain accountability of inmates and property; adhere to safety practices.

It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.

Education And Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in the vocation certified to teach, or high school diploma or equivalent and three (3) years’ experience in the vocation being taught and valid secondary teaching certification issued by Florida Department of Education required. A Valid driver’s license in the state of Florida with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.

Post Hire Requirements

Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements.
