The role supports DOCC, DOCC in-service training, and BLET, teaching across various disciplines at the NC Justice Academy in Salemburg or Edneyville.

Responsibilities include developing curricula, reviewing lesson plans, and delivering training with an Instructional System Design model, including e-learning.

Qualifications

  • Certified as a General Instructor by the NCCJETSC.
  • Experience developing lesson plans for criminal justice training.
  • Experience as a Detention Officer and Supervisor.

Additionally, the Department of Justice includes the North Carolina State Crime Lab, the North Carolina Justice Academy, and the Sheriffs’ and Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Divisions.Description of WorkRecruitment Range: $55,221 - $60,500IMPORTANT NOTE: This posting closes at 11:59:59 PM the night BEFORE the End Date listed.This position is currently located at the North Carolina Justice Academy in Salemburg, NC, assigned to the Training Division, and is responsible for researching, developing, and creating law enforcement and criminal justice related materials. The position may be located at either campus location: Edneyville, NC or Salemburg, NC, depending on the proximity of the selected candidate.This position will be primarily responsible for maintaining, coordinating and developing the Detention Officer Certification Course (DOCC), Detention Officer mandated in-service training classes, Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) and teaching related classes for other law enforcement disciplines.The position will be assigned to one of four instruction work teams and will be required to perform a portion of the preceding organizational duties, including coordinating – and instructing in – basic, advanced, and specialized criminal justice training curricula using an Instructional System Design model of analysis, design, development, delivery, and evaluation phases, which may consist of creating both traditional and e-learning courses that may include annual in-service training, or other training as assigned.In addition, the position will also be responsible for providing technical assistance in assigned content areas upon request from criminal justice personnel regarding operational policies and procedures and developing advanced and specialized criminal justice training materials that will include curricula, hypermedia, and other audiovisual materials.This position may/will additionally be responsible for providing training or acting as supplemental trainer for other subject areas offered by the North Carolina Justice Academy, including but not limited to Academy based courses, Commission-mandated courses and Mandatory In-service Training Courses.The position ensures that the appearance, organization and functionality of e-learning meets North Carolina Department of Justice standards. This position is also responsible for review, proofreading and editing new and existing lesson plans as part of the development and content process.Some travel, including some occasional overnight stays are requiredThe selected candidate is subject to a background investigation.The North Carolina Justice Academy (with campuses in Edneyville. NC and Salemburg, NC) provides basic, intermediate, and advanced training for law enforcement officers on topics including anti-terrorism, community-oriented policing, criminal investigation, traffic crash investigation, firearms, self-defense, and management and supervision.
