Job Vacancy Details

Teaches assigned day and evening courses in college-transfer communication courses. Primary responsibility is to teach communication courses in area high schools. Uses technology to enhance instruction. Engages students in the learning process. Performs related administrative and recordkeeping duties. Advises students and assists with registration. Keeps abreast of newest research and technological advances relative to the teaching of communication courses. Remains active in professional organizations. Promotes communication across the campus and the community. Maintains good working relationships with colleagues and serves on various campus committees. Reports to the English and Humanities Department Chair.

What You'll Do

Teaches assigned college transfer courses. Performs related administrative and recordkeeping duties such as assisting with editing/revising the Library instruction textbook; evaluating departmental textbooks; preparing lesson plans, course syllabi, handouts, tests, etc.; gathering resources for class; duplicating materials and making transparencies; conducting class; conducting critiques of students' work; grading assignments; maintaining files; etc. Prepares and/or completes various reports and forms related to classes including attendance reports, grade reports, rolls, etc.

Performs various student-related duties including advising students, assisting students with class registration, counseling with students, assisting students with career and study skills, providing help with job placement and contacts, writing letters of recommendation, etc. Completes various student forms such as withdrawals, registration, drop/add, and credit by examination.

Remains active in professional organizations and activities. Keeps abreast of newest research and technological advances relative to the teaching of communication courses by reading professional journals and attending seminars, conferences, meetings, etc.

Receives, reviews, processes, files and/or submits a variety of documents and reports such as attendance report, room assignment sheets, grade sheets, evaluation forms, teaching schedule, professional development forms, annual objectives, various forms, memos, and general letters of correspondence.

Operates, utilizes, and maintains various types of equipment and supplies including computers, calculator, copier, audio-visual equipment, general office supplies, etc.

Maintains good working relationships and communicates information within the Department and with all departments/divisions on campus. Serves on various College committees and organizations and attends meetings as required. Assists part-time instructors and substitutes for absent instructors as needed.

Responds to phone calls, providing information and answering inquiries as appropriate.

Performs Other Duties As Required.

What We Are Looking For

Master's degree in Communication or master's degree in related field with eighteen (18) graduate hours in Communication to teach curriculum classes; two years of teaching experience at the high school level; one year of teaching experience at the college level; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities. Preference given to applicants with community college teaching experience and online teaching experience.
