Summary Statement: Incumbents tutor individual students to support and reinforce classroom learning activities.

Nature and Scope: Incumbent works under the direction of the Dean, course Instructor, or other person assigned to coordinate tutoring activities. In cooperation with the classroom instructor, incumbents tutor in basic, pre-tech, and/or catalog courses to facilitate an individual student’s academic progress.

Principal Accountabilities

• Tutors students on a one-to-one basis and prescribes alternate learning resources.
• Takes inventory of materials and equipment.
• Monitors a student’s academic progress by utilizing prescribed assessment tools.
• Attends orientation and training sessions as requested.
• Completes and submits to supervisor monthly reports of tutoring and related activities.
• Scheduled tutoring sessions in consideration of the student’s needs and availability.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of relevant subject matter in the discipline in which the student is to be tutored.
• Knowledge of learning resources and teaching methods.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Good oral communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications: Associate’s degree in a relevant field or other equivalent combination of education and experience.
